Don't laugh at this idea please, but what do you all think of using 13"x 18" aluminum baker pans to mount the boards? I could get 2 on each one mounted long ways. Also seems like it would be more rigid than just using a flat sheet of aluminum. If I mounted the boards to the bottom, the lip around the edge would seem to dissipate some more heat and could get a few holes drilled for hanging clips. And the price is right

I spent all day yesterday making spreadsheets for comparison sake. I am definitely going to go with 561c chips, as they are definitely the best value.
Thanks for the specifics on the boards to look for. I guess I will contact Meiju for a price directly. Its a dice roll when you try to search Ali for the boards. The same product is listed 3 or 4 times at different prices, from the same company. Very confusing. Shipping prices also seemed the best from KB when they offer the UPS Express option. Only like $40 to ship 12 boards. But I guess I need to contact them about tariffs to see what those would cost. To be honest I am close to giving up and just buying HLG V1 boards as I am weighing the time spent guessing + not knowing exactly what I would be getting from China. Plus seems like if I go that route, I should order at least 1 or 2 spares just in case of failure.

The harder part that I am wrestling with now is finding reasonably price aluminum sheets in the sizes i need (2 boards per 12x18" or 4 boards per 12x48"). It seems that Aluminum is the one thing that is most affected by Trump tariffs. I did find cold rolled 0.125" sheet metal in the 12x18" size for super cheap, but not sure if that is going to be a good enough conductor to keep 2 boards cool running @ 60W? I don't have a garage or tool shop to cut metal down myself, and the price i got back from a local metal shop was only a few $ cheaper than just buying heatsinks w predrilled holes.

12x18 should work. Some people run 60w with no heatsink. Main advantage over the baking trays its that its almost 3 times as thick. If you find you want better cooling glue some u-channels fromm the scrapyard.

40"x 14" of similar thickness alu did 250w easily.
I think it would be much different it you run them harder.

Bear in mind, the hlg550 have about 28x24" of 4mm thick alu for a 480 driver.

I found some that were thick enough (12 gauge which is 2.7mm) for $10 each. The only problem is that they are concave so that as the food cooks it becomes flat. I don't think they will work properly for lighting. I will stick with my plan of using the precut 12x18 sheet metal for $10 each instead unless someone has a better idea.

Iirc you had diodes out on fotops but mainly on the version with some unalligned diodes?

The diodes All seem pretty lined up to me. Idk what the issue is but I’m happy they’re giving me money back.

If you want run boards at higher wattage make sure those baking trays are thick enough. It helps with sucking the heat out of the board.

its not so much the thickness ..but they need fins that re in contact with more air

..i am using a fan i can run them full on if i want....

but if you have a good room fan blowing on the baking sheets it relly helps..

Did you use thermal paste to attach the boards to the sheets? I don't see any screw holes.

Also did you glue the angle bars to the sheets or screw them on?
