1) Darkness increases resin production.

During a plant’s dark cycle, respiration is in full swing. The light during the day provides the sugars/energy during respiration in the dark for growth of many things including trichomes and the oils inside. This is a normal process during flowering. When a plant is maturing and pretty much done, you shouldn’t see many, if any, clear trichomes forming. This is easy to check and don’t hold your breath waiting for more trichomes to form when the plant is finishing in those 3 dark days.

2) Darkness increases terpene production.

Terpenes and other secondary metabolites form mainly during the dark cycle.

3) Terpene levels are at their highest at the end of the dark cycle right before lights on.

Heat from the day evap’s volitle terp’s off we can smell so it make’s sense the highest levels would be when they are forming during the cycle with the coolest temps.

4) Sugars/starches recede from the plant to the root zone while in dark cycle resulting in a better tasting/burning bud.

This is also a normal cycle when the plant is growing leaf and photosynthesizing. At the end of the plants life there shouldn’t be much of anything going on if the plant is truly finishing. It’s a good practice for sure to cut during the dark cycle to gaurantee she hasn’t sucked anything up during a day time chop.

5) Chlorophyll isn’t produced/active in the dark and existing chlorophyll begins to break down.

This happenes during the drying period anyways

Now lots of people will say bro science or voodoo but I do everything I can to make my weed smoke better and taste better and hit better so its up to you. Hope that helps
Thank you for your answer got so much information out of that :D. I will go with 18/6 from today on.

So another day another problems.

First: I see some red here. Is it a problem already and does it needs attention right away? Or can it be just normal? I mean it has occured before, but got rid of it after i transplanted. Maybe stress (because LST)? well it's still too little and thinking to wait and do nothing about it - or?

So another problem. Well actually a real problem. FUNGUS GNATS - I think it's correct to call it fungus gnat. So I sure killed him/her but the problem still stays. I didn't see a single gnat except for this.

I need some good advice to get rid of them, probably there is more of them. I already planted a sticky yellow sticker.

Also I need some advice about watering. Am I really watering too much? Or is it my soil? or am I watering too regularly? So - soil isn't regular (has some shit in it (some shoots idk how to name it :D) and I added about 35% of perlite. I have my plant in 5 gallon bucket (before transplant 1,5 gallon) I water about every 2-3 days now (but it depends if soil is wet, I don't water) I watered today, before i noticed this little fella. Before that 2 days ago I watered max 0,75l with nutes. So today it felt a bit dry, so I watered. My question is - Do I have to wait longer to water again?

If someone can tell me how exactly I know when and how much to water.. For this size of a plant and 5 gallon bucket? When is soil REALLY that dry do water? how to I know? I see that top of the soil is dry (maybe a very little moist) but maybe I need better explanation to understand when to water my plant.

I can never get rid of fungus gnats fully in my flower tent because I dont spray anything once in flower. That looks different then a fungus gnat IMO. As far as watering. Make sure you have a good wet/dry cycle. Especially dry. I've heard people put like rocks on top of the soil. Prevents fungus gnats from planting eggs which in turn limit their population. What size pots are your plants in? What week are you in? Give me the run down on your operation.

Some strains big fan leaves go colors once they get that big. I dont usually let them get that big before I pull them off and have a strain in my tent whose all fan leaf stems are a reddish color. I think its AK-47 or grapefruit that has those qualities.

What do you mean when u say good wet/dry cycle? Like having my plant to be little more time in dry soil before watering? How dry exactly dry soil is? How to identify?

I've heard that even sand will help (like rocks) maybe I have to use this kind of technique.

Pot size 5 gallon (first 3 weeks 1.5 gallon)
Exactly 5 weeks in vegetative stage (after germination)

But what if it has more of that red tomorrow? Some nute def? Or too much stress?
Stop stressin  Plants is fine, keep it simple.
You will what if yourself into insanity otherwise

All my leaf stems get color as they age. Not an issue

5 gallon is a really big pot for 5 weeks veg. Careful watering easy to over water when the plant is small and in a big pot. That being said dry/wet cycle example of my grow. I water the plants until I get run off then usually about three days later in flower, maybe 5-6 days in veg depending on plants size, I water but not without lifting the p!ant in the pot. If your not sure fill a pot with just dirt and water it. Get the feel of that weight. Also checking the top coup!e inches of dirt for dryness. Your plants will tell you when they are thirsty via wilting.

I dont think I've had a grow without having some visitors in the tents. In veg I spray foliage with Safers soap but in flower all I can do is sticky traps and that's about it

I planted to 5 gallon because in 1.5 gallon pot I saw roots looking out at bottom of that pot. So I wanted to go with 3times bigger pot.

Probabli I'll go with a week without watering now.

It's just the top will dry about 2-3 days, thats why I thought I need to water after 2-3 days.

Lifting the plant? What do you mean by that?

Thanks for your answers, been helpful.

When you water your plant it adds weight. If you lift the pot you can tell how dry it is by feel.

Update - I'm now 6 weeks vegetative and plant looks fine to me. It's been a week since my last post so I think it's the best time to update.

There has been some little changes:
First - Light upgraded from 7 x 45w 5500k CFL's to 6 x 45w 5500k CFL's + 2 x 15w 3000k LED (from 19600lum to 20400lum) Lihgts are about 6-7 inches away.
Got a timer week ago - Lights are on 18/6 cycle, Vent is 24/7 on
Yesterday I watered with - ph water (6.5), nutes 75% strenght, 1,2l (before that I watered on feb.4, so week without watering to dry it out a little)
Soil ph level has been around 6.8 the whole week.
Temps around 24C-27C or 75F-80F, humidity 40%-48%

First pic is 5 weeks veg and second one is 6 weeks veg / What do you think about the growth?

IMG_20200205_180916.jpgIMG_20200212_112140.jpg

So i have been LST'd it pretty much to have it like wide able :D It's short in height but its wide and has a lot of tops which hopefully produce good yields. Also I have removed some leaves and new bud sites at the lower end of the plant.
Main stem is 10'' (25cm) long, overall height is 5'' (13cm). I measured the full width and length - it's 16'' (40,5cm) wide and 20'' (51cm) long.

IMG_20200212_113745.jpg

Now I have problems understanding this pre-flower thing :D Next two pictures are made today. I do not know how to interpret what u can see in the pic. They aren't like pollen sacks, meaning they do not look as rounded as pollen sacks. They appear to be longer like calyx (bud) but no pistils. These appeared already week ago but still no pistils.
So is it correct to say, it looks more like female?

IMG_20200212_112247.jpgIMG_20200212_112402_BURST001_COVER.jpg

Next pic shows a problem, what occurred 2 days ago. Some leaves are somehow injured. Do not know why and how. I do not see any pests at this moment.

IMG_20200212_112519.jpg

  • I have couple of questions as well:
    • What do you think about health (overall)?
    • 6 weeks in veg, when I should switch to (12/12)?
    • Height? Is it ok, or too short?
    • Should I let my plant to stretch a little to get more height before going into flower? (for example, don't LST for 3days and stop pulling down branches?
    • Defoliate or let it be right now?
    • What about injured leaves?

I think I see hairs.
I just had a plant weird out on me that looked like that. New growth was really twisting bad, but i guess it adjusted cause it came out of it. I think I mixed soil a lil hot when I up-pot. Although I think it's starting to do it again.
I think your bug looks predatory. Definitely not like any fungus gnat I've seen.
Good luck with it all!

Picture made today. I pulled the light little more away from my plant. I'd say it's about 10'' right now. Will see if that helps with the twisting new growth (last time it worked).

Anyway. I'm thinking to switch 12/12 at the end of the week (16.02.2020). I have the space to grow it taller, but right now I have kept it smaller with LST to get it wide.

My question is - Is my plant gonna stretch enough on flower? :D or Should I still wait longer to get my plant a little longer before going into flower?

Is there enough tops to produce good yield? (I can see about 14 tops that are almost on the same height and can get light pretty good.)

I wonder, when is the last time to spray, let's say, Safers soap? Last day in veg or even before?
