Are these nutrients ok?

Hi everyone! Do you think I can work with these nutrients?
I've never grown anything before so I'm still learning and preparing things. I'm so confused... I'm building my little grow cabinet, got my seeds, I built a led light but I'm not going to use it (it's not very efficient) so I'm going to grab some cfl while I wait for parts for the next led light. I have soil, coco, perlite, clay, water pumps, air pumps, and all this stuff is bouncing around in my head making me a bit all over the place. I think i might be over thinking this. But anyway, for starters I would really appreciate some experienced opinion on these nutrients I bought.

I wouldnt trust grow nutrients made by Bayer... they own Monsanto Corp and its subsidiaries, which is like, cancer central. But I'm just wierd about that stuff..

As far as the nutrients themselves, like steve said, the lack Cal/Mag, so you'd likely do better with it in a well amended soil than you would in hydro. A good soil will already have a lot of trace nutrients/minerals in it, and SHOULD be enough to sustain through growth in my experience.

But you could always by a calcium and magnesium supplement seperately to add into your mix if need be.

i don't think one is better in soil than hydro, you can just buy cal mag and add it to your nutrient solution. Just make sure to add enough and to buffer your growing media

Cal & mag are micro nutrients, right?

It is really easy to grow. Just keep it simple, don't overlook the basics. Most people fail at the basics but think it is something complex.
So much good info on here.
My advice is go easy on those nutes, and you need Cal-mag to grow weed one way or another.
I really don't like Bayer.

Another question regarding the same topic, if I find Cal&Mag do I add it to the other nutrients?

It depends if you are doing soil or hydro, and what product you buy. Follow the directions.
When I used liquid Cal-mag I added it to the water before using it for anything.
I didn't use it full strength because my spring water had some minerals in it already.
My Cal-mag is in my dry soil amendments now and I mix it in before my grow.

Since this is my first time I'm going to try 1 plant in soil and another one in coco/perlite. Not really hydroponic because I'm not going to automate anything for now, I'm just going to see how it goes.
Regarding the water, I have a well with drinkable water in it, and I thought it would be a good water for growing stuff because it's low pH, but it is a bit hard. Just the water reads 500ppm with the TDS meter so I think it could be a bit high on the minerals. If anyone knows about the specs, they are:

  • pH 5.6 (Sorensen Scale)
  • 10 mg/L SO4
  • 4.3 mg/L CaCO3 (alkalinity)
  • 9 mg/L Cl
  • 93 uS/cm (conductivity)
  • 30 mg/L CaCO3 (Total Hardness)
  • 52 ug/L Fe (Iron)
  • 30 mg/L NO3 (Nittrate)
If this water turns out to be to hard for the grow, I'll have to use the tap water and run it through a coal filter (I use one to take the chlorine taste out of the tap water)

I really don't know enough about that to help you too much.
That is about what my well ppm is, and it smells and tastes horrible, and stains everything, so I don't use it.
I load buckets and jugs from a local mountain spring that has a PPM of 100-150.
Then I added cal mag up to 200-250.

Yeah I had my water analyzed, and it's fit for consumption although a bit acidic. But the ppm's make me wonder if I should use it for gardening/growing. I could experiment with it, but would have to grow both plants in the same medium.
I'll just wait 'till someone can read these results and give their opinion.

Is that all you use? Or do you add other NPK nutrients?

I was using Fax Farm Trio. I have recently switched to all organic living soil.

Wow, good to know. Ya, I still remember some of my college chemistry. I liked chemistry, biology, and all the science shit, but hated English and writing papers, lol. Awesome that we have some knowledgeable people here.
