i completly agree, its just that when using the 24inch bulbs i can barly get 4000 lumens when using for bulbs at 80 watts. That is more use of power for less light, which is not the way i wanna go.

I figured I'd best jump in on this again with a quick note.

You will have absolutely horrible trichrome production without UVB sources.

Supplement with some UVB germicidal bulbs or LEDs if you can fnind them in the proper wavelength. I purchased some LED grown pot - there are almost NO trichromes. Under a microscope, it's just desolate.Smells good, makes you sleepy, but no high for the most part.

The HPS will help some but that glass also filters out quite a bit of the UV light - sadly that's required by law to protect indoor workers from excess UV exposure (back in the days there were cases of people being sunburned indoors by those lamps, even from fifteen feet in the air.)

the e-cono 150w hps ballast pulls 4 amps! which is about the same amount as a 400w hps! even after running for hours it didnt go below 3.5 amps constant. be carful if you are plugging in for the first time.

Umm, not really, you've got your formulas mixed up.

The e-cono, while 150 w, at 4 amps would be 38 volts. The transformer takes 120v and steps it down to about 40v @ 4 amps.

Watts divided by Amps = volts. Amps times Volts = watts.

well, all i know is that it blew a 15amp circuit fuse due to the fact there was 12 already being used and when it was plugged in a hydrofarm plug-in 120v meter it read as using 4.0 amps. once other usage on the circuit was decreased so there was a lower amperage pulling through, it worked fine. Im sure you method is correct and there is more to it then what im thinking

First off your hyrdofarm plug in meter is CRAP.

Buy Kill-A-Watt meter. It'll give you TRUE draw from your outlet.

But yea, if you already had 12 amps on a 15 amp circuit, you fucked up adding that light to the circuit.

There's nothing more to it than that, period. Electricity when it comes to preassembled parts is that simple. Either you match up to the current and draw, or you don't and it doesn't work.

There's a free Linux tool that'll help you design circuits and ballasts and shit. I forget what it's called, I've used it to design my own systems (until I got the principles nailed in my head)

No. I just bought T5HO aquarium bulbs from Home Depot. They offer them from Sylvania. Maybe not in your area, but they do here in California, so I'm sure you can find them online.

Thier stuff is actaully getting better too.
I got their floor nailer and it neve missed doing Teak.(nearly three times as hard as oak.) I was impressed.
