DIY with Quantum Boards

Maybe ask about the chinese lights in the chinese light thread. Or buy 4 qb288 v2 r spec with slate 2 heatsinks and an hlg600h-54b. Or if you may expand to 6 or more boards, i would recommend 2 hlg320h-54b. Wire them in parallel with these drivers. Get some angle aluminum to make a frame or hang them all seperately. Or you could buy the hlg600 diy light.
thanks for the quick reply didn’t know there’s a Chinese led light thread.
So qb288’s are the standard board to buy off the shelf?

Qb288 v2 r spec are what the hlg550 use. They were the flagship board until about a month ago when the qb648 came out. I dont believe hlg has much if any stock right now with people quarantine shopping and lack of manufacturing. If you need to buy now, cob kits may have remaining stock.

You might as well get 2 triples, mount the boards on the ends, hang them individually, and ditch angle aluminum altogether. The cost of it will be the same to mount your boards together, if using single, in sets of 2 and even more to combine those 2 into a 4 board fixture.
Not to mention being able to run your boards at 200W+ each with the added surface area. Maybe move them in 2" in from the ends. Few holes to drill and tap for that, but not a huge ordeal.
I just have 2 of the single 648 boards. Got one going now.

CobKits is showing 17x Slate2 in stock.
Thanks. That is what i was looking for.

This is what I am using. If you have to drill holes anyway its a bit cheaper than the Slate's, and you can get any length you want. Trade-off is they are not anodized (I think that adds @ 25% to the price but dont quote me bc I didn't get it). I think @SCJedi ordered one too. When I placed my most recent order they said they were going to keep some stock in the LA warehouse so future orders would be faster.

Yes, I ordered a 1-meter long piece and mounted 4 QB288s to it. It took a couple of weeks to receive since it was mailed from Turkey but was told smaller pieces are in stock locally. (LA)

It is my knock off version of the Slate 6 and cost me $40 + $20 to ship. Less than half the price of the Slate 6.

In other news, Allied finally sent a message this week that my HLG 480w driver is being drop-shipped from Mean Well. It only took 2 months.

I also got 2 of the Rapid LED dimmers for use in a MW 320H-C2800AB model. A few bucks more but no soldering, just wago connectors.

I'm also trying to find 5 QB648 boards with the slate combos,(2x2 and 1x1 combos) to mount in a straight line across, waiting to be back in stock. Now for humidity control...

It's already around 50%RH in the house and with the Five color/ghost/reaper peppers/heirloom tomatoes and such,(I know, what am I doing on a weed forum?- It's the best technical info here, that's why), I am sure I will be seeing too high of a humidity inside the space. My solution is a 240CFM exhaust fan to pull air from under the door (about the same entry square inches as exit) as well as two small vents on either side of the door so there is no restriction on the unit, but the air needs to be significantly drier going in than it is coming out, sooooo...

I am trying to find a Frigidaire to mount high and run in the room to dehumidify down to 40ish. I need one anyway because I constantly battle mold in the showers. My plan is a continual gravity drain hose that taps into the AC condensate line through the wall directly behind it. Instead of putting vinegar into the air handler closet like I do once of twice a month, I can just put some through the dehumidifier hose, lol. So, dry up the main air in the room and let the 240cfm fan pull the drier air through the grow chamber so the humidity stays around 50% in the space. It should also help out the rest of the house because it's a 50 pint unit. I'm such a regular ole chatty Cathy today.

Hi all. Another noob here. Starting my 1st grow in 30 years, 1st ever indoors. Been lurking/learning the last month. Girls popped 5 days ago, doing well under cfl's for now. Just received my 2-qb96 elites. Previous posts already answered a lot of ??? (thanks Airwalker & Moabfighter).

Space is 4x3. With an HLG-320 C2800 figure close to 150w each. I know that's probably half of what I need but want to try to get through this 1st grow with what I have. @ the same time, don't want to waste it growing BS either. Just 4 plants-what do you think I can expect? Should I get a cheap, back-up to supplement till fall when I can get another "real" light? No light meter either, hang the 96's @ 20 inches?

Also, going to try and stay organic. Water is really high ph. Anyone recommend something organic to lower? Gotta get my ads in gear.20200510_173006 - Copy.jpg

Thanx

You just need 30-40 watts per sq ft so you are at 320 add another 60-100 watts and your in a good spot.

Thanx X6. So I guess that's a "yes"....I need another light. HLG sold out of almost everything. A Carambola off e-bay?
Kidding, will never patronize those Chinese bastards!

Pretty much, you’ll probably be best off grabbing a hlg off of eBay over some of the Chinese stuff or grab a 4 pack of either qb120 or qb132 from hlg and get drivers for them. Always nice to have extra lights, could always use 2 in your flower tent and add yourself a veg tent with the other two

Mid / late Gotham Limited ( Trainwreck x 79 Xmas bud ) and solo KKP .

Solo KKP got a top dress ( final ) for the next couple weeks of maturity. She’s fading but want to make sure medium is still charged enough for that fading . Adding kelp at watering with a little silica ( added last week ) to temper the Cali heat we been having , which makes them thirsty in 2 days of last watering.

That one is under the QB 304V1boards ( 3500k ) / COB . Those boards will probably be finally
swapped for diablos and will be probably sold. I need a tent , this one has made for about 7 years and is getting some pinholes. So after this plant , tent comes down , tossed and shopped for a replacement.... that’s why I might just “ upgrade “ during that time.

Gotham’s are pretty much neck and neck and will get another top dress soon too.
Those are under QB96 only .... did not use UV on them ... yet. Thinking of flipping timer on those for Monday ( got a new timer ) to get set up for 4 x 3hr ( power on ) during 12/12 for 15 minutes only. Pure UV bulbs can be a bit much running them any longer.
I installed a 10000k finisher to work with the UV bulb instead of rocking a douBle barrel of Pure UV which would be overkill .

Your driver will very likely take you well past 320w, so it's possible that you'll hit the 30w/sq ft mark; not that it's a magical number where every plant yields a pound, but it's a reasonable benchmark when you're starting out. (But 1w from one board is not necessarily equivalent to 1w from another - efficiency levels vary.)

If you're truly staying organic, don't be too concerned with the ph of your water. Healthy, active soil should buffer you just fine.

Do be concerned about the purity of said water, though. 0ppm reverse osmosis FTW.

Look into compost teas. The most important thing for me is to get the chlorine and other additives from tap water out because this kills microorganisms, or at least stunts their reproduction. I use a Berkey, which gets out all the nasty stuff but leaves the minerals in. Not totally related, but I did a test on baking bread with tap water vs. non-chlorinated water and the dough rose better with the filtered water, so the small amounts of chlorine in tap water must affect microorganism rates. RO is the way to go if you are running a hydro setup, because you can dial in the PPM more easily, but in soil grows, any little bit of dissolved mineral is nice for them, provided there are not myco-inhibiting things in it.
