The original ones are those dimensions. I think the round Root and Veg reservoir is slightly smaller but still same soil capacity. I use one original for 2 smaller plants or one Root and Veg for a single tree or multipotted small autos.
Are those measurements the soil capacity only? I think you said so just wanted to check. I've got a good buddy who owns a local hydro shop, ima try and talk him into seeing how many bags of roots will fit into the different sizes lol.

Not sure what you mean. The soil capacity alone is 2 cubic ft (15 gallons) The reservoir on the original will hold 2.5 gallons. The Root and Veg reservoir holds slightly less, but still a little over 2 gallons when dry.

Oh, ok my bad them, I guess they are the same, I didnt know you could fit 2 cu.ft. in a 15g. It's been a very long time since I had a smart pot, lol I gave all mine away

But now I'm positive I've never seen the big one, guess I'm going searching for some now, the wifes gunna hate you, bc ima blame it on you lmfao

I'm not sure you can in a Smart Pot. I think the sizes on all grow bags are overstated. But, in terms of actual unit conversions, 2 cu. ft = 15 gallons.

It's also a little confusing when they use dry instead of liquid volume to measure the soil. I copied this from B.A.S.

A brief explanation of using Cubic Feet as a measurement: Most soil companies sell their soil by the Cubic Foot as do we. But there is a big difference between what constitutes a Cubic Foot. When looking up the Volume for a “DRY” cubic foot in gallons you’ll find 6.4285 gallons. But when looking up the “Liquid” volume for a Cubic Foot you’ll find 7.4805 gallons. Well you won’t be surprised to find that most home gardeners use 7.5 gallons as a cubic foot but most soil companies use 6.4285 gallons per cubic foot. This will explain why you have less soil in some bags than others from two different companies. To be clear, we use 7.5 Gallons at BuildASoil. com for all of our soil bagging and measurements for addition of amendments.

Have you thought about doing this integrated with vertical growing...i had two pages bookmarked on the list together and a thought was sparked. I don't grow indoor so it might not be feasible but just something to ponder.

I've thought about it but that's about it, I've always found vertical growing kinda fascinating, but with how I'm set up now it would be quite a bit of adjusting and I just havent brought myself to giving it a try.

Hey green! How’s it going with the added o2 to the res?
It's going too well. The amount of increase in growth that I've gotten I just was not expecting at all. She grew at the speed of what's normally my stretch in flower. But I dont wanna put my foot in my mouth. So I'm currently working on getting 2 of the most identical clones that I can, and setting up 2 brand new sips exactly the same with the one variable being an air stone in one and not in the other.

I got some 12" air stone bars to even out the bubbles. And I may be doing a tad bit of tweaking with the blk hose in the rez. But soon as I get everything rocking I'm going to do a full side by side, I'd like to say beginning to end. But if it appears to be a landslide win, which I'm highly sure it will be. I'm going to run both with air. I may just have air stones in both, but only run one. This way I can test, but if it turns out to be, what I'm very sure it will be, then within a few weeks tops both will be running the air.

But bc of the amount of growth I am getting and so fast, I'm thinking I may need to beef up or make my soil a little hotter. Normaly my monthly top dressings are plenty, but as I'm learning this isnt the case anymore

Downside I still have not been able to find the info or learn, what actually happens to em1 when it becomes aerated. I know that it somehow changes completely and I think it may turn into something else entirely. But that's the extent of what I think I know. Hopefully someone can help me out here lol. But bottom line, it works!

Great news! Do you think adding air to the soil might be another boost or maybe just overkill?

I asked about aerating an em-1 res over on probiotic farmers group on fb. I was told by alan adkisson and a few others (who i don't think ever tried it) that the o2 would kill off all the anaerobic microbes we want. Curious to see how it works out for you.

That's the exact thing I thought, and why it's taken me so long to actually give it a try!

But a good friend of mine, told me it changes it, and doesn't kill it. I Haven't had the time to speak to him in detail about it, but I do know for sure this guy knows more than I will probably ever learn. But I'm going to make it a point to get facts about this!

I've been working on alot of experiments, and not exactly full of money, but here very soon, I'll be able get the few more things I need and I'll share everything with you guys!

According to teraganix, air kills em1. I contacted them about using activated em1 on my compost pile and they recommended covering it with a tarp after I apply it. Id say your aerated water isnt bothering your em1 if you're getting great growth.

I 2nd the aeration in the reservoir. Ive been doing it in my earthboxes the last 3 runs and I can definitely see improvement and speed in growth. Which is crazy, the growth was fast before the pumps. I use two 5" round airstones per earthbox.

Oh! I didn’t realize you top dressed. I thought the idea was that you build the soil up so that you only add water through the entire grow. What does your top dressing schedule look like?
