Oh, forgot to ask

What size angle for the frame?

I'm thinking 1/16th thick & 1 inch wide for the strips

But what about the frame?

And angle vs u channel. Does it matter?

also i see cutter has started to list the v2 version of there 3 channel solstrips with the 3535/xpe center, i have been waiting for these.....

Good point mate. Not sure how I'd overcome that or even where the most intense spots would be. But I could put some strips tighter towards the edges and even it out a bit
are you any good on computers mate? you can download software called dialux that lets you simulate the light spread/intensity of your builds, you will need an IES file for the strip you want to use(i think teknik has one for the gen3 your gona use cause he has tested em on his rig) but any 560mm long strip IES file would give you an idea on how spacing your strips would effect the spread.

I'll have a look at that before I get building

i like the 2020 extrusion for frame work, nice and solid and light enough.
Easier to fix into my plan than an angle frame you reckon?

Nice one man that helps a lot. Those are the clearest pictures I've seen. Gives me a good idea of the thickness of the strips and the 3mm looks plenty sturdy enough.

Back to the drivers a minute... Could I use a HLG-320H-36AB for my 38V strips? It goes to 39V... that's a 0.9V overhead

Is that cutting it too fine?

That'll finish my build on one side If I can tag that onto my order.

If not, and I'm never going to overclock it, is the B version better for me for the dimming option?

As far as I can understand from what everyone's told me is the A version is better because of the choice for me to overclock it. To my mind that means the B version would be better if I would only ever be dimming it.

Have I got that right?

Ok brothers so I need a bit of experiential wisdom here for the design..

You'll know from your build where to leave little gaps and overlaps and stuff... so with that in mind let me run this past you..

I'll break it down into two bits -width and spacing, and length and overlaps - so we can knock them out

My space is 2m wide..

I want the lights to be 60cm wide, three of them (the 320 ones)

That'll leave me a 10 cm gap between them, give or take an inch

My idea is to use a bigger width of Alu angle for the edges for solidity and also so I can stick a strip to the very edge piece, while still leaving a few mil gap along the rim in case it knocks into something or whatever.

I want to do this so I can keep a nice tight even spacing of all the strips when I hang them all together.

Does this sound good? Any problems so far?

Second part is about the length.

I want them to be 120cm long.

The strips are 56cm each. So 112 long together.

Now... I want a little gap between them. I've seen people do it to spread the light that tiny bit better.

So check out these measurements and see if I'm ok

I was thinking a 3cm gap brings me to 115cm, leaving me 5cm (2inch) so I can rest an inch on either side of the frame.

So far, any problems with this design?
sounds good, i think you could even do more distance between the two footers. it will remove hotspots. remember you can easily go two strips wide. on the very sides of your two meter space, you want a slight asimetry for even spread. But maybe keep it so you can rearrange if you later on will be running it in a different way. i hope it makes sense.

If youre allways planning on running them low yeah maybe. I might do it myself but maybe wouldnt advice someone to do it, especially before having tried myself.

Or is 1/16" (1.5mm) enough for the Blux strips?
For how many strips wide and what wattage per foot. Likely its overkill. It can be good to have a bit of heat coming of youur sinks if you feel there might be cold in winter. But if you have a few hids in there over the worst of cold parts your sorted.

Sorry if I missed it, but have you looked at the xlg line? they have some interesting options as far as wiring possibilities.

I am still stuck between using a hlg-100-20a driver or an xlg-100-h driver per 8 strips for my builds. The hlg seems the more ideal fit, possibly giving me a little more watts if needed, but the xlg price is so much nicer.

I've gone with the hlg-320w-ab version. Was lucky enough to get the last 2 on TME.
I also got the 480w ab version of the HLG.

My advice is make price on things like drivers your lowest priority. Get what you need and ignore the difference, because on the build it will mean nothing.

Haven't looked at the XLG's to be honest but I will do. I'm thinking to do 2 x 240s so yea, I'll look into that. Nice one
