New roi-e720 available in few days. Would this be a better upgrade from 1000w se hps?

melted diodes???? That had to be a fault on the customer. Well I'm still gonna take the risk and get 2. That warranty better hold lol
Companies like Spider Farmer/Mars from what I can tell and have read will void their warranty if they find the drivers have been turned up past their factory and recommended settings. I've run my 420 for veg only so far from 25 to 75 percent. I did notice a increase in heat output the higher I ran but nothing even close to being to hot to touch. I've only tested it at 100 percent a few times and had no issues doing so.

Boost mode sounds kinda dumb. Why not just give the actual watts the driver is capable of and then add a proper dimmer. Just because I can buy high octane jet fuel doesn't mean I should run the stuff in my car.

Damn. You must have a big house not mention a sizeable power bill.
I would try something along the lines of a single high out put fixture like a diy from HLG or a pre built unit to see if LED would suit your style and growing needs. If I had that power bill I wouldn't wait either, potential for savings is huge specially on where you grow and natural climate.

This is actually now the second time I've seen a complaint on the 420 for melted diodes, first time on reddit 10 days ago, i am now going to steer clear.
dang multiple melted diodes complaint on a light that just came out a few months ago..... gigantic turn off for me.

Imagine youre in a middle of a harvest and the diodes start melting lmao. not down for that. Such a shame.... it was a pretty good value LED light with the warranty and all that good jazz.

Be safe out there! Just cause it's cheap doesn't mean it's good. I rather pay extra for that peace of mind that I'll wake up the next day

Why does it have to be the customer's fault?
I'd have to say that a person might get curious about looking into the light to see what makes it tick. The screws are standard phillips so if a person wanted to crack one open they could. I for one have texted the company to try to learn exactly who makes the LED's and model information as well as what type of driver or drivers they are running in it. Again I'm got to say that the construction from what I know looks really good, but that said I'm only talking about the outside of the light only. Curious has anyone gotten ahold of one of the new HLG Sabor bar lights? I saw a add for one recently and they look interesting, again likely only gonna be of interest to a person who isn't entirely comfortable building their own lights. More power to the people that do but for now I'm not gonna venture down another hole when I still haven't made it out of the one I'm currently exploring. Maybe someday I will be able to afford a room with lights covering the entire room which all could be controlled independently alone with built in environmental controls and other bells and whistles till then I'm happy just learning what type of light I find works best for the growing I'm doing.

Is it multiple complaints or one complaint by one person all over forosphere? Ive seen "known issues" making the tours around the forums justt based on one persons bad experience.

But if it is multiple cases then be sure to avoid.
One of the better ways to evaluate theses unknown fixtures is figuring out how much wattage per diode; if its somewhere around .2-.3 its usually fine.

So I just finished up chatting with a customer service person at GC and they were great. I wanted to know if the light has multiple drivers one light one driver. Good thing is if one driver was to fail the other bars will stay lit..

I was doing some searching when I ran into this post and had to comment....STAY AWAY FROM GROWER'S CHOICE!

I bought two of their E-680's and they worked great, so I decided to get two more lights this time the e720's. I received them last Monday and put them up this weekend. First thing I noticed was the light controller had light scratches on top and the LCD screen was bland not as colorful as depicted. I also noticed the chords were already attached to the lights and not tightly bound like the previous lights I received which gave the impression these were used...but I'm being paranoid right? So up they go anyway.
First thing I did upon set up was break out the ol' PAR Meter and check Umols and boy was I shocked... on a literal side by side comparison and a 6 inch distance from the lights the e720 on standard mode produced 100-150 LESS Umols than the e680. I never got to test "boost" mode because the light doesn't have a "boost" selection on the knob.... so you boost it from the controller right? Wrong, the controller does not allow you to go above 110%, which upon testing didn't make any difference Umol wise.
These are shipped directly from the GC warehouse so no chance of the seller messing with them and what are the chances they both got damaged in route without any Physical damage to the box or light? I can only conclude that GC sent me used/returned/damaged equipment. I contacted the seller this morning, who contacted GC who said
"Attached are the return labels for this customer's entire order. We do not sell used items.
However, we do not want him to feel like he was wronged. The best way to resolve this would be a full return"

So then how do you explain the pictures? No explanation. No reasonable solution. No exchanges just send them back and sorry about not having any lights during flowering. This is all very fresh so I'm going to be hassling with them for a bit and in the meantime my plants suffer. i will keep you guys updated on their solution methods to this colossal pain in the arse.IMG_7428.JPG

What's with the scratches right out of the box?IMG_7483.JPG
Does this look like it was wrapped by a machine or a stoned human?IMG_7479.JPG
Literal side by side comparison with the E720 on the left and E680 on the rightIMG_7477.JPG
1119 Umols from the E720 at 6 inches away from the diodes. Sorry about the pics, it's not easy juggling 3 items while taking picturesIMG_7467.JPG
1290 umols from E680

So what do you all think?

I think thats not a good look at all. Theyre going backwards.

What do you think of the 680 though? and are you planning on returning the e720?

I bought 2 of the e-720. I didn't get the controller. Mine came perfectly boxed and were brand new from what I inspected. Don't have a par meter so can't tell you the par reading but are both you lights running on same voltage?

I really think they sent me used lights. At the very least these things should be able to match if not beat the 680's. I love the 680's, my only issue with them was I wanted wider coverage not necessarily higher Umols as anything over 1000Umols is useless without co2. An exchange for a working set of e720's would be ideal as these things are 46 x46" and weigh 44lbs so they aren't easy to to put up and sure as heck harder to ship back since they won't fit in my vehicle.

Mine looked brand new as well, could just be defectives that were sent back and then sold to me. did your cord come tightly wrapped or loose like mine?
