Grassy smell while drying?!

Hey everyone. So I cutt two of my smaller bud pieces as an experiment (this is my first grow) trichomes were milky color but not all of them are like that so I am letting the rest of the plant grow. Anyhow it is day 2 and I have 2 trimmed bud pieces on a small plate. I noticed on day 2 the buds went from smelling nice (like they should be) to now like fresh cutt grass.. is this normal during the drying stage? I know when you CURE the Bud in jars there’s a chance of that happening but during the drying stage? Any advice?

Unless it was chopped to early, the grass smell should go away as it drys, if you dry too quick, the grass smell might stick around. Most the time for grass smell not going away or in general was a early chop in my experience or a bad dry not allowing chlorophyll to break down.

You will get that smell from cutting it early. Curing can fix to an extent but sometimes wont fix if cut to early.

It’s 9 weeks of flower and the buds I cutt off looked like they were ready IMO. Since it’s only day 2 I’ll give it more time to dry. I read online to let it try 8-14days. And cure 2-3weeks.

Post a pic of the plant, I’m in week 11 on an advertised 8 week strain, you need to look at the plant before you bother checking trichomes.

those dry times are for hanging most of the plant if not the whole thing, single nugs will probably dry long before 8-14 days unless your humidity is very high.

Yea I think it needs another 3 weeks. The nugs I cutt off though looked finished
Yeah not sure on the nugs, I can assume they were a bit early.
So nugs take longer than 8-14days to try? What’s the difference drying on a rack opposed to hanging?
14 days would take temp humidity around 60/60, I’m drying right now at that and it will be at least 14 days, I’m at 10-11 now. Bud will dry quicker if you cut and rack, slower the dry the better, a whole plant will dry slower.

So what would be the average dry time then for nugs?
I have dried in a week or less, there is a lot of different info out there, 70f at 50rh would prob dry in a week or sooner. There is some good info in the forums on dry time in relation to temp and humidity but bottom line is, if you can dry slower, dry slower. I wouldn’t want to speed it up any faster then 5-7 days drying before “testing”.

You have 2-3 weeks before you need to dry, I would recommend working on a setup for drying to keep the buds cool with indirect airflow and at least 50% rh, more if possible, if you need a humidifier, get one, I use a little cool mist one in a 6x10 room. I ended up running a small room with ac, a humidifier and dehumidifier on ink birds, it’s working great. Bud structure, temp and humidity are too variable to estimate any dry time but if you get close to that, I’m guessing 7-10 day. 60f/60rh 14-20 days, less on anything smaller buds, if you wet trim, dry will speed up a bit, if you cut and rack them, bit faster, if you do that just make sure to fluff or shake the rack to prevent flat spots on the buds.
