180mm, and yeah, I’ll probably change out the fork. It’s sorta set up for XC. Honestly, the sport has progressed SOOOO much in the past decade, I feel like that bike is almost too outdated for the times...lolThey're also really stable on snow. There's a fat bike snow racing series in Poland. What is the travel on that beast? 200mm? I've never seen a double crown on a trail bike.
@Bobby schmeckle has a sweet Santa Cruz 5150
The geometry looks right for trail, long wheelbase and short reach, and with a new fork, shorter stem and wider bars you could make that work well and be comfortable. The only downside I see is the slack seat tube. Running a dropper on it might be weird. Full XTR, Hayes Nine brakes, that bike must have been over $5,000 new. I'd try to make it work. Personally I hate 29" wheels, they're just too big and in the way. I only ride 27.5" and would be perfectly happy on 26" too.180mm, and yeah, I’ll probably change out the fork. But I’ll never be a real trail rider, I’m too old and my body too broken. I just wanna be able to ride some technical single track again.
Bro, we gotta get ya something to ride again! Hyper is a Walmart brand if I remember correctly. Better off just finding an older name brand bike on CraigslistI have a cheaper hyper mountain bike and kara got a huffy beach cruiser. My rims broken hub wobbles bad
Yeah, it’s not a cheap bike, and it has decent components. But I really wanna get rid of that 3x drivetrain. Too much chain slapping around. The geometry looks right for trail, long wheelbase and short reach, and with a new fork, shorter stem and wider bars you could make that work well and be comfortable. Theoretically I LOVED the idea of playing volleyball on sand. In practice it was like playing in quicksand. I'm 5'4" and in sand that translated to 4'6"I haven’t ridden one, but I like the idea of being able to ride on sand.
I will eventually power it with a mid drive motor. One that mounts to the bottom bracket and replaces your front chainring. It runs through the bikes drivetrain giving it maximum torque on the rear tire. So basically, I should be able to climb any ascent that a fit mountain biker could climb, except for it without breaking a sweat...lol
I’ve mountain biked since I was 12, but took a decade off. Now that I have my daughter, I’m trying to get back in shape so I can start riding this beast in the closet...
Titanium Maverick trail bike, I just have to convert the old 3x9 drivetrain to something more modern like a 1x12 sram eagle. Also needs an overhaul. Bleed the hydraulic brakes and make it safe again

LOL yeah, and if I was relying on pure pedal power, I think sand would get old fast. But it'll be powered, and really if I ride on the beach, i'll most likely be riding on the semi-wet to wet sand.Theoretically I LOVED the idea of playing volleyball on sand. Some serious gear in your arsenal. Thanks for sharing!Sorry for the bad pics. Everything's been in storage

That bike is insane.......harder you ride it the better it handles. It was a racer back in mid '00's. Hacks? Hehe it runs a road gear set and rear derailleur. The equates to more top end and a shorter cage for better ground clearance. So much more....all "Black Box" Boxxer front fork. Romic rear shock........

Gotta get this one running again......need a new front wheel and brake block to mount the brake. Cut the steer tube and put the bars and steer stem back.
Got a few other bikes but those are when I ride my main rides.
Oldschool giant trance.

Brakes where horrible on anything back then......how do you stop on chrome rims! LOL ever use your foot on the back tire?Notoriously bad brakes on those older huffys
I was a toedragger. I still am with my cruiser...lol...That thing is like ridiculously dangerous. It gets up to 30-35 mph, weighs a ton, and has a cruiser coaster brake in the rear...Thats it. No front brake (have a bolt-on Tektro coming on Friday), and those coaster brakes are only designed to stop regular weight bikes at 25mph or slower. So it can get a little sketchy to say the least...lolBrakes where horrible on anything back then......how do you stop on chrome rims! LOL ever use your foot on the back tire?
the 1x conversion isn't terribly expensive. You can reuse your cassette chain and crank. Buy a Shimano XT 11 speed shifter and rear derailleur with a clutch. Take all the rings off your existing crank and replace the middle ring with a narrow wide chainring and your good to go. You can use your limit screw to stop the derailleur from shifting through all the gears since that's a 9 or 10 speed... I can't really tell from the pic.Yeah, it’s not a cheap bike, and it has decent components. But I really wanna get rid of that 3x drivetrain. Too much chain slapping around.
I’m hoping to find a short dropper that works.
And yeah, that bike is so old, it’s still on 26s, lol
My GF used to go to every one of my races.......our 15y wedding anniversary is on Thursday. Kids are starting to ride......guess I'm gonna have to start again and teach them how to wheelieSome serious gear in your arsenal. Thanks for sharing!
Crazy how overbuilt dh bikes were back and the day and the bottom bracket is so high! I guess that's to protect it from rock strikes?Sorry for the bad pics. Everything's been in storage

Yeah it's for ground clearance. That was actually a light bike for a 8" - 9" travel bike. I'd love to build a new ride but the money you can throw at it is nuts.Crazy how overbuilt dh bikes were back and the day and the bottom bracket is so high! I guess that's to protect it from rock strikes?
My partner rides a Trance when I can get her out. Can you tell she really likes green?

Now it is easy to see why:But do you remember the poster that was in that LP?
I had it on my bedroom wall for years.

Yeah I was figuring I would have to change most of the drivetrain, bottom bracket included. It's going to be a while till I'm fit enough to ride that bike anyway...I'm over the weight limit at the moment. I have some work to do just getting my cardio back in order, then gotta start dropping weight.the 1x conversion isn't terribly expensive. You can reuse your cassette chain and crank. $228 total. Finding a square taper 1x crankset will be a challenge. Neither Sram or Shimano make one.

As for huffy...lol. I remember back when I used to ride all the time, I had a sticker that said “If Huffy made an airplane, would you ride in it?”

Luckily, I quit smoking around the same time as I quit biking, 2008.
That bike is a goal, for now I'm just trying to get out there and be active at least 5 days a week. Then I have to adjust my diet again too...lol
I have a lot of work to do.
