HPS still win when you factor in the cost of the LED lights, but I'll only run the HPS now in the winter when its extra heat is welcome.
Over the lifetime of a LED how much would you spend on HPS bulbs? How much more electricity cost? The initial purchase of the LED is more but the longer you run it that gap narrows, over time even the cost factor the LED wins.

Just thought I would report that my second tent with the redwood-vs 600 came in at 700grams of quality bud and 100grams of larf. I'm not used to getting any larf so I have to learn to train better. This was doslato and it's not a super heavy producing plant to begin with so I am very happy with 700 of super nice bud. When I first bought the lights I was prepared to get 0.5 gpw and willing to work my way up so super happy that there was a lot less of a learning curve than I had thought they would be with LED.

Hello friends,
I may be in the market for a new light soon, this is a question for very experienced users who are confident with their knowledge.
I'm currently using a California Lightworks Solarstorm 440 LED to light up a 4x4. I've had good success, very bright and keeps temps low. I also have a Solarsystem 315 CMH and I dig the spectrum but it's not as strong.

What LED would be an upgrade from the Solarstorm? - Looking for higher yield while not raising temps. Folks seem to like those Samsung diodes (LM301B/LM301H ) on QBs. Would a Spiderfarmer sf4000 be a step up? Not trying to order chinese boards from alibaba either. I know HLG is popular. Budget is $500

QBs or SF would be a step up in efficiency from the CLS. So yeah more light per watt. Same heat.

I still have a 440 in my closet! I loved that light. IMO it was the best LED for it's time. I run HLG now and it is obviously superior tech when compared to the clw, but I did grow some beautiful plants under that 440. May have to do a run under it just for nostalgia sake.

I can’t lie I have the sf1000 and its done some justice on my buds in the last 2 weeks. The sf4000 has to be a beast. I have my tent in an ac cooled room, passive intake and a 4inch in-line 295 cfm fan with filter and my temps range around 73-77. Depends if I have to door cracked or not.. so heat isn’t a problem.. that’s in a 2x2.

Right?! Glad to hear it treated you well also. It's damn heavy - something like 36 lbs.. Always thought it was real strong, uvb is a nice addition and plants don't seem to stretch much under it. So you can confirm a QB like the spiderfarmer sf4000 would be a step up - better spectrum and better yield?
Thanks for the comments guys. If you have a recommendation for something other than the sf4000 I'm all ears.
