I don't think so but I'd put that cube a little deeper so it was covered by the Hydroton. But that's a minor quibble.

Or moving the light a little bit closer
Until it's roots get below the hydroton you need to water from the top. When I ran NFT I had top lines that pumped constantly. I removed them when the roots got well below the pot. Also keep your lights 18/6. Plants benefit from a sleep cycle.

Some plants need dark, but I don't think cannabis does.

Cannabis is a C3 plant, to grossly over simplify, they inhale in the light and exhale in the dark. So they need some time out of the light. Can they survive under 24/0 yes but mere survival doesn't imply optimum environment.

I don't get how that paper is relevant. If you are referring to the dark cycle it doesn't mean it takes place at night. It means it's light independent as in it doesn't need light. At night the light cycle can't function so in the dark only the dark cycle continues and it continues as long as there is stored energy from the light cycle.
Whenever a plant is deprived of light that is the plant's 'night' and the plant's physiology switches over. Anyway I've tried both ways with the same strain clones. Plants under 18/6 seemed to do best. If you prefer 24/0 enjoy. But I don't recommend it.

Yea im running them 18/6 but they're under 1000w mh so I didn't want the lights too close to burn them. They're about 31 or 32 inches from bucket. Im in a 4x4x6.5 tent
