Fake or cheap genuine QB?

why did HLG need to call them Quantum Boards in the first place? Why not LED PCB's?
Because they wanted to brand their product. Really, that should be pretty obvious. That's why they trademarked the name 6 or 7 years ago. It's not like they tried to brand a pre-existing name or anything. Why does Nabisco call their sandwich cookies "Oreo"? Because they want a uniquely identifiable product brand name. Really, this is like business 101.

It's just ironic to me what is defined as a genuine QB.
How is it ironic?

If they taste the same i'll go for the cheapest cookie! What knock off quantum board is equivalent to an SF 4K?

The Newman-O's tastes far superior to any other Oreo-type cookie. This is one rare situation when the knock-off is better than the original, likely because they use higher quality ingredients, which is also why they cost a bit more. I'm totally willing to pay for quality.

Also the benefit of hassle free returns/replacements if the product has issues

Absolutely agree. In fact I had this experience with an unrelated item recently. I spent around $200 more for a quality item I could have gotten from China for $400 or so. When the item arrived, there was unfortunately a damaged part. I called the Colorado based company after hours and left a message about my issue with my order number, and they had a replacement part in the mail to me the next day. 5-year warranty too. Definitely worth the investment.

If it's only warranty that i'm paying for i am willing to take the risk.
When you spend extra money on HLG (or similar companies) products, you're also paying for top bin diodes, and top quality drivers. That's a potential difference of around 15% light output right there. I could be wrong, but I don't believe that kingbrite or meijiu guarantees top bin diodes, and Mars has recently admitted that they do not use top bin.

I won’t deny that HLG has a better quality PCB and higher binned diodes along with local customer service but it is also more than double the price.

It’s a tough choice between 15% more light output versus double the power output when you could buy 2 240w for the same price as one. Even if one fails you would have a backup.

The QB 96’s are quite good value though considering you can build them for less than $1/watt.

Who does the fake 1 say 200 way to much lol like 12 bucks hahahaaa
Because they're good knockoffs. I know what you mean. I bought a Rolex for $10 from a guy on the street in Seattle. I knew it was fake of course, it was pretty obvious. Some people will gladly spend the $200 or $600 for a fake, because they're go scam someone and sell it to them for a few grand.

They'll act like they just really need money and that they hate to sell it, and you're gonna get some amazing deal, lol.

You're only looking at the short term costs though, you also have to consider the long term power consumption. That 15% difference means you you have to run around 75 more watts (for a 500w rig) to get the same light output. Each day that difference adds up to close to one kilowatt. That's an extra 365 kilowatts a year you have to run for the same output. Depending on your energy costs, that could run you anywhere between $50 a year and $150 a year cost difference, certainly enough to make up the cost difference in a few years or so.

I agree with you on the electricity costs, especially coming from a state with probably one of the highest rates in the country.

Considering you can yield almost twice as much for the same initial cost is important as well though. If we are concerned about electricity costs then surely initial investment is a factor to consider as well and since cannabis costs way more than electricity it makes sense to buy more wattage of less efficient lighting than vice versa.

All this comes down to whether or not money is a limiting factor. If it isn’t, then going with more efficient lighting that can be purchased domestically is the obvious choice.
