I say it depends on the plant. I defol large plants and lolli petites. How's that compare to you wizz?
Generally I just lollipop them all. Its what I was taught out here. But I wanted to see why I'm doing that and not the other things.

I'm pretty sure I have my answer lmao.

I will say large plants end up defoliated as well due to pests. So yep I have to agree with that.

When I pull my cola plants plants down I'll get some pics to compare with you. Everyone's colas seem thin and stretched on this end of the country this year.

Are you talking indoors? Light angles, and the suns penetration kinda makes that unneeded doesnt it
Ya, I grow indoors. I'd do the same thing outdoors though. I ONLY remove leaves for airflow inside the canopy. I don't remove them just because they're blocking light. Outdoors I would still do little selective defoliation, and I mean a little. It would help with pests too like @Wizzlebiz said.

I would still lollipop them outdoors a little too. I think it really does allow the plants to focus more of their energy on the tops. I've been growing the same strain for a couple years now, and I've noticed what it does. It's a clone that I just keep cloning so there's no genetic diversity.

Same with peaches. A light pruning just before harvest brings fruit that is larger, sweeter, and more uniform. Less disease due to increased airflow. But, it is a fine line and you can overdue it. Can't afford to make one mistake if you try to earn a living from growing peaches.
The plants don't have to be from the same variety. I've been to many pruning demonstrations conducted by scientists at UCDavis and they even visit different farms.

I lollipoped a bit for the first time because of this thread; five days before I flipped this batch. Granted it was pretty minor and left about three layers from the tops. Question, are you guys following this up a few weeks into flower?

I try to do most of it before the flip. It's even better if you do it gradually starting when they're younger, but I do it all at flip too sometimes. I also will do a final touch up trim at week 3 since flip, then I don't mess with them. I've also done it once a week for the first few weeks little by little. It's all given me the same results. I think @Renfro said it wasn't good to mess with them at the start of flip and to wait for week 3 to do any trimming, but don't quote me on that. I don't wanna put words in his mouth. I've gotten nanners with some sensitive strains so I'm not doing everything right, lol.

And nice trees man.

My indoor is stripped pretty much by last week of veg. I then continue pulling leaves as they grow where I don't want them until week 5 of flower. I'm happy with the results. 003.jpg

Pretty, efficient and effective looking to my eye!

I am planning to SCROG this run of OG Kush, but considering I'm on day 08 from seed I have a few weeks to plot, plan and second guess myself.

edit - too many ands...

Those should stay pretty compact. These outgrew my space by a few inches due to branching out.

I put a little Sunset Sherbert plant outside and let my wife take care of it. It's her plant now. My soil is good so she just had to give water, but she did a good job. It's in a little 3 gal fabric pot. We are in CO at like 8500 feet so it's not the best climate, and it was partly under a roof to protect it from the crazy hail we get here. It was just for fun really.

I wanted to get better pics but it was getting late and she started going to town removing leaves before I was ready. Anyways she's plucking the buds now and putting them in paper bags. Good girl, lol.
