Is ordering an HLG 550 or 600 straight from HLG a good idea if I'm okay with their list price?

Would the 550 produce top shelf buds in my 4x4, or is the 600 that much better and not overkill for the space?

Or am I totally confused and you don't recommend the results of either?

This is the 600 I'm talking about for 850. Please look at the 550 on through that page and tell me what you think

I just purchased that same 600 from HLG, have not grown with it yet but it works well. Going to start a run with it very soon. It should produce great buds. The cheaper one you linked also shows a really high light output which I would question.

Ya, they're awesome lights. Order direct from HLG with code "RIU10". I would rather have 2 of the 320's though instead. Better spread and more options. It wouldn't be much more. They're $435 a piece after the discount, so $870 total shipped.

Also they're discontinuing the 550's. They're all gonna be 600 soon.

So what's so great about HLG LED's? They seem overpriced to me.
I understand it's a US company, but aren't the components imported from China anyways?
Are you just paying for an American to assemble it for you?

We've already given you advice. It's up to you to decide what you want. And no, the parts don't all come from China. HLG also gets to best diodes, and so on. I'm not gonna get into this again.

No, we pay for North American safety certification. Also so there is a local place to get warranty from and a 3 year warranty. Also nice to deal with a well respected and long standing company. I personally like supporting local business as well but feel free to order from some Chinese company, many have good experiences. Than again many dont. It's all up to you where you spend your money.

I'm not the one who made the topic, I'm just asking questions that comes to my mind when looking at suggestions.
These type of thoughts might help the topic creator.
I already have an LED that is working good for me.
But as a novice I am soaking in all the knowledge I can and I am also a cheap ass.
I just know samsung is an chinese company and the diodes do come from there. Not sure about the other components.
I Just see a lot of knocking on chinese leds but I think to myself, are the parts not mostly from china?
This is just how my brain works. I question things.

These are all valid points, I could certainly understand paying a little more for safety and warranty.

Samsung is actually a South Korean company. They make stuff in Korea too. I don't care though, get whatever you want.

Yes, I like the fact that I can speak to an american company and be certain issues will be resolved quickly.

The HLG seem to have the best stats, best reviews, best features, best warranty, best service.

But that's a yes on the 550 being suitable for the area?

From what I understand there is no daisy chain function, so having 1 unit is a plus.

First time grower, looking to spend at most $550 on a non-blurple LED for my 4x4

I'm trying to decide between Mars Hydro TS3000, California Lightworks SolarXtreme 500, and the Spider Farmer SF4000.

Will the SolarXtreme really cover a 4x4 being so small? Is the extra 100$ worth spending on the SF, or is the Mars Hydro enough?

Thoughts please. If you have better options than these for a 4x4, I'll look at those, too.
Try either a Mars hydro if you want UVB etc lights or Spider Farmer SF4000 or SF2000 I believe

My SF 4000 have Samsung diode chips so that’s a plus , they work fine. But I have heard of people getting defective ones

This time I have two 250w California Lightworks systems and 11 plants. They're doing great the light is super intense the plants love it. Don't let these guys (yes you know who you are) swing there dick around and tell you hlg is the only light that will grow good weed.

I'm leaning toward a 550 just bc it is right in my price range. If my first experience is good, I plan on having a budget of 2.5k-3k around the new year just for lights in 12x14 bedroom conversion. I want to go cheaper now so later when I upgrade to a whole room I have a bigger budget. This is almost like a proof of concept run with this tent.

Very nice. It's so hard to believe their 550 can cover a 4x4 when it's so tiny. I'm sure it's bright as the sun, but I can't see the side coverage being good as these units that are basically 3x the size

The 600 is replacing the 550. They're phasing out the 550 now. That's a good option, I just like the spread of the 2 320's better. I also like having multiple lights better than one big one. Then I can adjust them to different heights if I want, and if one of them had a problem I'd still have one going at least. The drivers are eventually gonna go out. I like the looks of their new Scorpion versions too.

You really can't go wrong with any HLG stuff.

Nothing is a bright as the sun lol. Check the specs from the company, I’ve seen people use multiple led lights to provide coverage instead of one big QB
