Stuff in the Kimberly where i was was simmiler but had more iron in it. Drained pretty well. Yanks used to grow rice in it after WW2.

most cropped soil has been fkd for generations. The new breed of farmer is starting to put stuff back in. Times are a changing i believe.

It goes a bit further with Australian soils imo, in that they are just millions of years older than a lot of stuff you'll for instance find in north america. Erroded topsoils with little to no organic matter, Australia is the old man continent of the world lol

Even small time breeders who still use small cliplock bags (bodhi comes to mind) use their own sticker labels and seal the packs. Most take the step up to branded or plain Mylar bags, an impulse sealer (which are cheap as fuck) and some kind of container pretty quick.

Some good red ferrosol type soils here in Vic, very good structure. Not sure if you get it much in NSW

Exactly, dandy ranges. Red mountain soil, so many advanced tree nurseries up there and strawberry farms. Great for nutrients. Not so good on drainage

Mind you for the wildlife i get on my small place it makes the moistness of it worthwhile.
I get Ducks and their chicks, Native hems and their chicks, Plovers and their chicks, Lots of birds, Bandicoots (i love them, they come up on the deck and will scare the cats away and eat their food), really cute buggers to funny to watch. wallabies of cause, just lots of stuff but only on 1 and 1/2 acres.
So being so moist it does attract stuff. Dam next door helps.

when my son lived at home we had a pitch down the back. Was good fun with a few people round for the arvo.

Red soil in the sub tropics at altitudes above 100m but below 200m yes thanks. Red soil does not mean clay. Red soil usually drains very well, sometimes too well if you want a dam...so I hear

Yeah that’s proper clay. Red clay is worse. Seen a few vehicles get stuck and simply left because you’d need a jack hammer to get them out when it’s dry Because you’d have Zero hope while it’s still wet.
