Chickens are pretty awesome. They are like living composters. I feed them all my kitchen and garden scraps. I fill their coop and run with straw and every time I clean it the straw/poop goes straight into the compost pile. The eggs are amazing too, I'll never go back to store-bought eggs. Just make sure you have a dedicated space for them, they can definitely make a mess.

Chickens are illegal here. Seriously. My sister had 500 birds in her basement when breeding pet types. Finches to Macaws. Loud enough to hear a block away. And smell 3 away. But that is legal. Damn Jenison city council made a special needs child give his pet duck up. His best friend. Massive backlash prevailed. But Richards all the way around on that one.
But unbeatable pest control with yard birds. I'm jealous.
