It’s about time I got in on another solo cup grow, brother! I have a lot of seeds to choose from, just let me know which one I need to germ!
Hey Bro!
I remember we were in one of the solo cup comps together.

Sorry this post became a bit long.

The comp I'm dreaming of would require everyone to buy the same seed packs from the same breeder. A solid breeder who has stable genetics.

I talked to a breeder about a comp with seeds he sells.
He is also a competitor so I offered to buy his seeds if he wanted to compete with me and a few others. Nothing came of it yet. Anyone that wanted to play could join the comp if they were willing to buy the comp seed pack. I thought it would be good advertising for his genetics which seem quite stable. The prices would be fair and the breeder wants to see great plants so he would hopefully use seeds he felt would show his genetics as stable and vigorous.

I'll use BD as an example.
If I had Blue Dream and someone else had Blue Dream and they came from different breeders it would not be the same as when all of the seeds came from the same breeder.

I'm 6 1/2 weeks into 12/12 growing BD, Cannatonic and Pure Power Plant from Nirvana.

At transplant from 1 to 5 gallon the BD had a poor root system and the others were excellent. I have clones of all of them. When cloning the BD took forever to develop roots, the other two developed large root systems quickly. The BD right now look ugly with fried leaves. The other two strains are very healthy. When I harvest I would not be surprised to see the same poor root development in the 5 gallon pots. We would not be competing if you had a BD from a different breeder that was vigorous. Now if we all had the same BD that would not root well from Nirvana it would be hilarious IMO. I think we would have a good time with it. Especially if the rest of the strains looked healthy like the PPP and the cannatonic.

If there was a breeders pack designed for comps with 5 different labeled strains, some fast flowering some long flowering it would be a difficult grow for those who are used to growing one strain at a time.

Might as well throw up some pics or it didn't happen. ;)

This is an overhead of the PPP. To the right is a BD.

This bud shot is a bit blurry but it's my most recent pic of the PPP. I'm enjoying this plant, not sure how long she will take just trying to keep her green for as long as possible.

Did they say you would not get this far because of your grow skills or because they didn't think cannabis could be flowered in a cup?
Yes. Lol

I received a lot of negativity when i described my situation. Id say 80% was "weed cant make it in such a small medium" to 20% "youre new thats too hard"

I understand what you’re getting at. We would all start with the same genetics from the same breeder with only our own decisions about nutrients and light schedules and watering regimens to determine who grew it better. Kind of like the IROC races where everyone had the same car and the skills of the drivers determined who won. If you can figure out the seeds, then I’m all in!

Anyway I'm done with comps till there are some where everyone grows the same seeds, a variety pack would be my choice.
When not competing with the same seeds it becomes a frost and weight contest . I prefer growing sativa hybrids that flower longer and don't have much frost on the leaves. Everyone growing the same strains would make a better comp IMO.

I'm out, it's bed time. :peace:
I wonder if the contest could be more organized, like with wattage classes and categories.

IE:
Low wattage HID < 400
Low Wattage LED < X?
Outdoor
Open Class
etc.

Then within those groups have different competitive categories for quantifiable and subjective things:
Most Viable Colas
Longest Cola
Heaviest single cola
Heaviest overall dry weight

For subjective categories have judge selections, or open voting:
Most beautiful overall plant
Most beautiful cola
Frostiest cola

Then the nominated judges or open public just vote.

Might be more effort then it's worth but it would open up the competition? I'm new here but was eyeing the solo cup challenge as something fun to try.

This may not happen for another year if it does go down at all.
I see the smoke reports becoming more interesting in a comp like this. If 40 started and at least 15 made it to harvest we would all be giving smoke reports on the strains. Some uplifting strains, some couchlock strains. It would be interesting to discuss how we all interpret the different strains. Like every grow there will always be something new to learn about growing and a comp like this would make the grow styles and equipment stand out.
