Liberals were first called "Utopianist" years ago. They always thought that the world could be restructured to their "version" of Nirvana. People are basically good.

Conservatives or "realists" believe the world is a dangerous place. "If you want peace prepare for war".

This historical dialectic has existed for many years.

If we can only get someone really smart, we can build a better world.

LMAO

I would like to know.

Are you the first person to ever call a conservative a "realist" or do all conservatives mis-label themselves with that word?

Haha, remember when you had me on ignore

?your too easy
I don't know what your game is, chuck ... nor do I care. I thought you made some valid points in your PMs to me and I wanted to respond. I've come to realize that you much prefer to ridicule others. Its that self image problem raising it's head again. Like I said in another thread, there is help available for people like you in the form of medication and therapy. Seriously ... you should seek help.

I don't see it that way at all Vi. I think it is you who are, in fact, calling the kettle black.

You're nutz. Why are you even responding to this? I make an attempt to reach out to chuck in a positive way and he gives back a smart-assed response. You're both nutz. Go spurt on your monitor. <Sheesh!>

You can never have a utopian society, even ones good in theory never seem to work out.....

There will ALWAYS be some animals more equal than others.

You cannot have an utopian society with humans until they evolve. Sounds so awesome in theory but it never works in reality.

There will always be some animals more equal than others. :-(

Exactly, human nature will eventually take over.

I do not see much hope. The more you study history and see the same BS over and over.... Anyhow I get a bit discouraged.

I am merely reciting history. Sure it is a value laden term. This political dance has gone on for 100s of years. I just try to compare the positions of both extremes. Study history, look for pattens, keep a sense of humor and fire up a bowl.

It must suck to be a realist, no chance for divine intervention in a realists mind. I am some what of a realist, but retain a smidge of hope for the invisible man in the sky to come and save us. I'd tell you why, but then I'd have to kill you.

I do not get your linkage between realism and religion. Historically realists felt that each nation/tribe persues its own national interests. this leads to conflict. They feel it is prudent to be prepared for conflict.

Liberals believe that man is good and can solve all problems by putting like minded people in positions of power. Really smart people like Bruce Springsteen and Al Gore.

Do you lock your doors at night? You are probably a realist.

Thump thump thump ka bump bump bump. I think many "men" had their hands all over that book, inspired or not, they were still men. I could say I felt the hand of God on an acid trip and he said sheep fucking was the bomb. I'm sure it would work for some people. Reading something out of a book, does not necessarily make it so.

Well yeah, and I own a really big gun. But in 68 years, I've had no need of either. door locks or guns. Of course since they've been locked, I really can't say that for sure. I say, locks only keep the honest people honest.

What a pissing match this thread turned out to be.....

Too true. I read through this far to see if anybody ANYWHERE had the same thoughts I do on the subject of politics, but of course it falls into name calling and partisan side-taking nearly immediately. I am rather politically nuetral, not apathetic but not clearly liberal or conservative. Of course, I'm always accused of being apart of the opposing side to whomever I have most recently offended.
My $.02: As the article stated, the two major candidates were not that far from being the same person. I only wonder this fact: one of these people was open on their policies and the other claimed not to be everything they were. Wouldn't you rather argue against someone who is atleast open to what they are doing? I'm going to have my issues with whomever is president until the day I get elected, so I'd far prefer to atleast not have a liar in the office. Change starts with admitting to whats going on. With McCain and Palin, you'd have to convince them that they are spending liberally before you could get a valid point across to them about why it's a bad idea. otherwise they would just agree with you and continue to do what they do.
PS Obama has promised to stop federal attacks on medical marijuana clinics and growers in states where it is legal!!
