It's up to Californians. I'm kind of disgusted by the way they failed to follow CDC guidelines. Now they blame their governor for the situation they are in. Seems childish to me. But, yeah, it's their party and they can go to it with whoever they want. I find Newsome's day out on the town disappointing but he won't be thrown out of office for that.
Every political leader will be judged according to how well they manage the vaccination campaign and the economic well being of the population. Newsome is in the hot seat right now, mostly because his administration is botching the vaccine rollout. Public sentiment can jump back to approval if things get better. The states needed federal assistance in the vaccine rollout. Now that Biden is in office, it's going to get better but there is a lot of ground to cover after Trump's inaction.
