Premise: Although it may be a common practice, I have never personally grown tomatoes indoors. I thought it might be fun to see how ketchup and chronic got along under the same roof. Rutgers were chosen because I am really fond of their flavor. I can certainly use LST to manage the height of the cannabis plants. I have no clue how a tomato plant might respond to something like that.

Day 1 - February 7, 2021:

Today I planted the seeds and gave a gentle rain of pH-adjusted water (no nutrients yet).

Day 8 - February 14, 2021:

The day after the initial planting, I decided to sow one additional LSD-25 Auto and Pineapple Express Auto seed. At first, my intent was to boost yield. now, I am viewing it more as "germination insurance." I am concerned about crowding, though. If more than four of these seedlings survive, I may need to either make a sacrifice, or upgrade to a 4 x 4 ft / 122 x 122 cm tent during the grow.

Pineapple Express and LSD Auto 1 were planted on the 7th of February. Pineapple Express and LSD Auto 2 were planted on the 8th of February. Both Rutgers Tomato 1 and 2 were both planted on the 7th.

For watering, I am currently using the method of wringing out a wet paper towel around the seedlings in a small circle when needed. No nutrients are being used yet.

I am extremely pleased to report both tomato plants germinated successfully. After all, they are the "stars of the show" here.

Both tomato seedlings appear to be "praying to the light." Whether that is a good thing or a bad thing in this case, I am uncertain. This is the first grow I have started with the Mars Hydro TSW 2000. Thus, I am not sure if my 50% brightness and 20 in / 50.8cm figure is appropriate right now.

LSD-25 Auto 1 has me concerned. The sprout hasn't looked any different for a few days. I don't know if it's growing anymore.

This seed ended up buried under a massive chunk of perlite. It appeared to be trying in vain to lift it off. So, I manually removed the obstruction. The seedling seems to be growing vigorously now. In all honesty, I may have overdone it on perlite in general.

P.E. Auto 1 was "off to the races" very early on. Clearly, this is not the runt of the litter.

I don't have much to comment on with this one yet. I think it looks pretty good for being a day behind the other Pineapple Express planting.

Thank you. I took macro shots of all of the seedlings, but thought I was getting a little carried away with the pictures.

I certainly could try that. I did help Pineapple Express 1 off with it's shell. Are you recommending the drop of water to aid with the husk removal?

I manually removed the husk like you suggested from LSD-25 Auto 1. In the process, I inadvertently uprooted the seedling and had to re-plant it. It had a 1.25 in / 3.18 cm taproot that looked healthy.

Magnifying glasses (like you use) would have probably helped me out. Instead, I went with bare eyes.

Well done Sir. I envy your eyesight. I'm surprised it was enough tension to uproot that long of a taproot. It should open in 24hrs. or less. A bit of air circulation could aid the process. I can't tell for sure, but the membrane may still be attached. Time will tell.

I've got cherry tomatoes on the edge of my lights that got out of control fast. Thought a 1 gallon pot would keep it on the smaller side. lol nope.

Thank you. I do appreciate your suggestion from earlier also. However, more I look at that seedling, the more I get the impression it's not going to make it. I will give it the benefit of the doubt and wait 24 hours though. If it doesn't look any better tomorrow, I will probably replace it with a different bean. I haven't decided whether to go with another FastBuds LSD-25, or something else.

Anybody can post pictures in here, that is okay. I am going for a "laid back" kind of approach.

Those look great though! I can't believe the tomato plant got so huge with your pot size, either. I will keep that in mind.

Size is a major concern I have with my Rutgers, too. Do you know of any training or pruning techniques you can employ with tomatoes to keep them under control?

I once used a washed out tomato sauce jar to store an oz of weed in. After like only a day the tomato sauce jar, the weed stunk and tasted like tomatos. I hope this is not the end result of your cohabitation experiment.

You and me both. For me to have that kind of result, it seems like a ripe fruit would need to burst within the tent. However, if my memory serves me correctly, the tomato vegetative material does have an odor all to itself. That might be a concern.

I am excited about the LSD-25 Auto too! The moment I saw some footage of those purple flowers and resin seeping out every which where, I thought it looked excellent. Honestly though, the main reason I bought it was to try out (consume) the strain. I do enjoy the more psychedelic experiences, and would like to know if LSD-25 is a misnomer or appropriate. Admittedly, I might have been suckered in by marketing.

Day 15 - February 21, 2021:

Honestly, I am not sure how things are going right now. The beans were planted on the 7th of February. Are the seedlings smaller than they should be at this point?

I think I may have been over-watering. I still believe the Solo cup & paper towel drizzling technique is helpful for controlling the amount of water seedlings get. But, I think I may have been supplying the hydration a little too frequently. Admittedly, I was doing it on a daily basis (one solo cup of water per the 5 pots). Now, I am trying to allow more time for the medium to dry out between waterings.

I fear I don't know what I am doing with this light. Previous grows were all started with a blurple. I struggle to determine the correct height and brightness of the light. Due to the stretchy nature of Pineapple Express Auto 1, and (in my opinion) the diminutive size of the seedlings overall, I decided to up the LED intensity to 75% last night. The light is still 20 in / 50.8 cm from the soil. I haven't noticed any negative response from the seedlings yet.

Nutrients were introduced for the first time today. I mixed 1/2 a teaspoon of FoxFarms Grow Big (Veg nutrient) and 1/2 a teaspoon of Cal-Mag into a gallon of pH-adjusted water. I am going for seedling strength. Though it's a gallon batch, I am still only giving the Solo-cup's worth of water at a time right now. I wonder if I should even be doing nutes at all yet.

Although the LED is bright, the leaves seem a bit too light-colored overall to me. Honestly, I haven't felt this lost in a grow for a while. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

This remains the largest seedling of the whole lot. The first set of adult leaves seem to have a seagull-esque arc to them that's making me uneasy. I also noticed those same leaves may be losing some of their greenness towards the tips.

I don't have much to say here. It looks like your run-of-the mill seedling. At least it's not stretching.

LSD-25 Auto 1 ended up being a casualty. What would have been the stem appeared to "dry up" and die off before rising much above the soil. I tried planting a new LSD-25 Auto seed in it's place. Unfortunately, it suffered the same fate. I have a few of those seeds left. But, I'll cut my losses and focus on keeping the sole survivor alive for now.

The tomato seedlings appear pretty healthy to me. They are also keeping pace with the ganja, which is nice.

Day 22 - February 21, 2021:

Allowing the medium to dry more between waterings seems to have had some beneficial effects. It looks like like green color is returning some. I am also seeing less drooping leaves and a lower gnat population.

Although the plants are growing, the pace of the growth still seems abnormally slow to me. To make matters worse, Pineapple Express Auto 1 appears to be flowering already. That makes me wonder if this whole grow is a bust. I am frustrated things are going so badly with these Autos, considering the success I had with my last Photoperiod plant.

I still don't feel like I have the light dialed in right. I noticed the leaves were starting to curl around the edges. So, I lowered the brightness back down to about 62%.

I appreciate your interest in this project. I didn't want to post an update on Sunday because things seem to be going so poorly. I almost pulled the plug on the whole operation. However, I noticed the LSD-25 plant is showing some recent acceleration in growth. Being an Auto-flowering plant, I doubt it could put on enough vegetation at this point for a significant yield, though. I did take some photographs today for the Heck of it. I am not sure how much longer I will keep trying with these four remaining plants.
