Where I live in Nova Scotia we have weather like they have in Texas for months on end in the winter, the wind turbines work just fine. I dunno why cold weather should take down a wind turbine, there's not much to freeze up on them, they do feather and brake them in very high wind conditions for safety. I think they are bullshitting about wind power and lumping it in with solar as renewables and solar doesn't work under snow.Texas has promoted the development of wind energy over the past 15 years.

Abbott had to "walk back" his comment about wind turbines and the green new deal on Fox. Texas is so proud of its "energy independence" and total lack of regulation and guess what? Here is the result. They ignored every weather proofing recommendation they got after the 89 and 2011 deep freezes that had this exact same result. On the other hand, look at El Paso-their lights are on...because their utility actually listened to those safety assessments and weatherproofed their equipment. Blaming this on wind turbines is too stupid for even Fox to promote...considering there are dozens of red states loaded with weatherproofed wind turbines. This is just plain old Texas stupidity.

Again, that is part of why Texas went off the national grid: to cut costs.
They don't like regulation that makes them make things solid and reliable. They want to do it as cheaply as possible to maximize profits. They literally gamble with peoples lives on the thought that "well, it hardly ever gets that cold down here" and "well, when's the last time we had a really bad hurricane".
So they had no winterizing on anything. It saved them 10's of millions of dollars per year.
Now, of course, it will cost them billions to repair all the damage.
Everything is bigger in Texas, including the greed and stupidity.

The gearboxes have to have a lighter grease otherwise it reduces power, just like our cars before you let them warm up and drive off (for us cold weather denizen. You have more danger of blade icing than on the prairies, it is a dry cold here. Frost and ice buildup can cause the blades to be unbalanced and vibration to occur. Also the ice changes the airfoil shape of the blade and makes it less efficient. We heat the blades when needed.
But what is scary is the water system in Texas where they show pumps split open because of freezing.
i feel sorry for the animals but i could care less about the people. too bad. that bitch AOC and her Green New Deal are to blame of course. fear and anger.

This situation reminds of something the cable company told me one time when I ripped out a cable line that was laying just under the freshly placed sod.
