How was the show Lord Bluntmasta, I was talking to ya in the Death Metal thread... I didn't really like any of the recomendations I got. I like Strapping Young Lad, and the Devin Townsend band, Dream Theatre, Slayer, Tool, NIN, and other genres of music... Not all metal... Shit some good old Grateful Dead every now and then, it depends on the mood.
Absolutely badass show, the opening band was this trippy ass 70's type 3 piece band called Danava, they sound like Black Sabbath meets Iron Butterfly. They all had wicked ass moustaches, too. I will probably buy a ton of their shit soon, they're so originally unoriginal, it is genius. Also their drummer is a fuckin god. Apparently it was Danava's last show so Phil the singer from Down and Pepper one of the guitarists come out both with guitars and they all start jamming.
Then Down comes out and plays like a 2 hour set, Phil Anselmo sang well but messed up a couple of times but whatever. The rest of them were on the ball. Then during Down's closer "Bury Me In Smoke" Danava and Phil's girlfriend come out and start jamming...then there was a really depressing encore (they didn't play one of their most popular songs, which I thought for sure was going to be an encore). Either way it was awesome. I was thrashing my ass off all night haha.
as far as what I recommended you...I don't know what to tell you. I will just throw some progressive type bands at you. Check out Porcupine Tree, Liquid Tension Experiment (pretty much dream theater's lineup without vocals and a diff. bassist. Also check out any of Dream Theater's member's solo stuff), Opeth, Savatage, Sonata Arctica, and maybe Gojira (heavy but progressive)
Oh and you should listen to Down as well. They aren't anything like what you mentioned...more Stoner/Sludge metal. But they are all metal gods!
