Question about taking clones from week 5 budding plant.

Im doing a grow from seed of Expert seeds WW/GG4 cross, and one of my plants is just a marvel - the large nugs of the WW combined with the early sugar of the GG4, and strong growth. So im gonna try and get a clone despite it being in week 5 of bud.
How much of the nugs do i cut off? - if i snip them all at the base of the stem, will the clones have any growth tips to grow from?
From what i gather, cloning from a budding cutting requires cutting off all the bud growth, and leaving on veg timing ( 20 / 4 is my pref ) till it reveges and roots. ( or dies.)
So how much of the growing nugs do i cut off? All the way to the stem, or leave a bit for growth tips?

It’s definitely not something I’d shoot for unless desperate to get plant numbers or save genetics, I noticed cloning from plants that are in full flower mode often take longer to root and waiting for them to return into vegative growth can produce weird stocky plants like Chip Green mentions

By the looks of those bud tips you’ll see some funky little plants from those cuttings

When cloning deep in flower I look for sucker branches from the interior that are low on the plant and have little to no flowers on them. They seem to snap right back around compared to anything with with developed bud. It works either way but seems to take more time to turn around when the cut has more flower. At least that's how it has worked out for me.
Good luck friend!

Im starting to see that getting them to grow roots was just the first step in getting them back to a healthy veg, and its going to take some time.
Seems that i should expect some extra bushy and random plant structure, so i guess training will have to be a fluid process rather than a strict manifold.
Now with one screen grow and one manifold grow experience, hopefully i can improvise :)

Lol on training a monster. But thinning is definitely called for.

These clones were taken around week 4. They were from a long flowering sativa but you can see how they grew after cloning. Lot's of branching.

Don't cut anything off of the clones. Let them grow out and do their thing.

I’ve had monsters that looked like burrs. You had to thin tons of thin shoots or enjoy popcorn. That is by the time they were big enough to actually flip and produce.

When I said don't cut anything I meant not right away. After the clones get bigger then it's ok to clean them up. I cleaned up the bottoms of those clones before they went back into flower just keeping the top and middle branches. You need to let them grow out a little and then you can trim them up like a shrub. I don't think I'm going to try and grow a monster cropped long flowering sativa indoors again. My 4 x 4 tent cant handle the jungle they grow into. :bigjoint:

Personally it’s fun if you have the space. I didn’t find it worth the time and effort with just a 4’X4’ tent and a 101 day outdoor growing season.

It's definitely challenging with limited space. Especially with a sativa that takes over your flower tent for 20 weeks.

The other thing I found too time consuming was revegging a plant totally stripped of bud. It was done. I had read on it a lot. Didn’t strip the very lowest nodes under the SCROG. It took forever to even start greening up. It couldn’t have produced enough bud so it went to the compost heap after a month.

So you kicked it too the curb? We see how you are. :D
