i suck at growing pot

well actually it is my first time, im growing inside using potting soil and a reading lamp (am not shitting you) and so far its growing, but is only like 3 and a half inches tall and is just starting to look like a pot plant. it has a few leaves, in fact i can count them on my hands (i have named them rick, fluffy, peter, mary, einstein, dr. pepper, joe, jack, and watzenhiemer). my friend has grow before (in his closet like i am....yes i still live with my parents, they dont care though) so i have a rough idea of how to do it but would like some professional tips

i am only growing one for the hell of it, i am not doing it to sell or smoke alot, so i only have one plant (for now, next time ill try with three) so i am not doing anything with hydro systems or anything fancy nor am i trying to do cloning or mother stuff, just straight grow one or two plants at a time for shits and giggles (i know how to do that stuff, my grandmother use to grow african violets and judged them so she taught me about that and after someone explained it to me it sounded like the same thing)

all i need is three questions answered

1) what the fuck is a male/female thing, i know males are bad but what do they look like. also with males can you use their leaves to make hash or is it only female plants for that?
2) can i use tap water?
3) how can i stop fungus, mold, and parasites from attacking my plants? i have a fan, and a light, thats it, i am not buying anything so just the easiest dirtiest way to get it done

any other tips any of yall got would be much appreciated, i know alot about guns, not growing weed, but would like to learn how because im a bio major and its some weird stuff that i do i guess

a reading light from a lamp next to my bed side table

i know i need a soft white and warm white, but havent had the chance to get those yet

but it is working and like i said i am super new to this and have gone into it half assed......but now i care for some reason, i want to finish this

head to the FAQ section and look for CFL info, get one in there fast tho, poor starving thing! lol. you have a long time till you gotta worry about sex, research that in a month after you get a real light! and as for fungas, keep the air moving and don't spill lotza water around, keep the humidity down, keep them fans on for sure, always.....

i will read up on this faq thing yall are speaking of (forgive me for i am from poor southern
folk)

i think my plant is like two or three weeks old, not sure (i dont remember when i started it) i think ill keep checking this website, i probably wont have to post any new threads, everyone else seems to have already said and done the same dumb shit ive been doing

It doesn't take any talent whatsoever to grow good Dank Ganja, just some knowledge and experience.

You can use male plant to make hash, but it won't be much and for 1 plant will probably not be worth the effort.
You need to get a better light ASAP, its the #1 predictor of yield assuming all other things are good. A nice y adapter in your lamp and two 65 watt daylight CFL ( Compact Fluorescent Light, the twisty bulbs) should make the plant much much happier and much faster growing. When i say 65 watt , I Mean that's the actual power used, not the equivalent wattage ( its equiv to like a 220 watt). Hardware store, less than $30 for it all. Do not water too much, no fertilizer for a while.

i do 10 at a time under this setup

get yourself an old lamp and a fluro ( energy saver around 20 -35w ) some crisp packets shiny inside for reflection just tear em down the side voula shiny stuff sit it round the bottom of the plant erm you could try a coca cola bottle with the bottom cut off there lables are white on the inside and they will keep a good humidity lid on for humidifying off for dehumidifying lol getto growing is great fun and you get to come up with some great ideas
