400watts 3 feet away, no damage imo, 1k 6 inches away never hurt plants. On mover or would crisp them up. But light never hurt only heat from light.

I was being sincere. The read would lead to the understanding that the sun is far more of a threat to you or plants.

And a redkneck example would be : "How many factory workers in insanely overlit HID environments are getting sunburn?" Although tinted UV A and B safety glasses were recommended if not required.

you need to worry about your eyes more then anything, eye protection is paramount. unless you have a bulb with a small hole in it, then a metal halide bulb can be your worst enamy on the skin

I never stare at the bulb in the top of the tent... I wear hps glasses too starting recently.

you dont need to stare at the bulb for it to affect your eyes. but good to know your looking out for your eyes

What are the signs of eye damage from an HPS?

Loss of color brightness, faded or fuzzy without focusing. Tracers, bright spots in your vision. Burning itching, watering and flash burn like sand in your eyes at night. Same as welders sight issues.

Sucks man sorry to hear that... I get eye floaters from time to time, but that started when I had bad tinnitus and only slept 50 hours in 2 months... Now I turn down the blue light on the tv and computer and wear blue light glasses.

general deteriation of eyesight. although hps isnt as bad as the uv from metal halide or uv from led lights, its intencity is enough to cause eye problems. some people will get visability damage to the eyes, some will suffer long term damage to the eyes. its all to do with light intencity with hps, and as i previously mentioned, uv from some led lights and especialy meyal halide are double bad, light intencity and uv damage

Yup lm growing blind from years of hps. But mh way harder on eyes bc of uv like u said.

Along with limited vision, individuals working with HPS lights can react to a phenomenon known as the strobe effect. look it up not good
