They were showing footage on the news this morning. I had to change the channel because I couldn't watch. It's just horrible. I can't imagine what it's like for those that lost everything.

"Fireline explosives will be used Sunday to build fireline in an avalanche chute containing heavy brush and downed logs. The sound of the blast will be audible in the town of St. Mary, and is expected in the early afternoon.
The explosive firefighters use is about 1¼ inches in diameter and 50 feet long; it looks like a long strand of sausage links. The rope-like material is filled with a gel-like PETN material that explodes at 22,000 feet per second after being ignited with one detonation cap. Since the material comes in 50-foot sections, it can be laid out as far as a crew wants to build fire line. It is stored on spools which allow it to be unrolled as firefighters walk over the desired location for the fireline."

It's been cool this summer with a lot of rain and cloud here in NS. If the AMOC goes haywire we and the northeast coast of of America could see much warmer weather, if the gulf stream came a bit further north before turning east we could have palm trees in Nova Scotia. Christ only knows what the weather would be like over northern Europe, London is the same latitude as Labrador and Scotland is as far north as Baffin Island.

Yep, that's my town, I've spent my whole life here, I never thought I would see something like this. I can't believe the fire was that hot, it melted lamp posts. The town was out in the open not really in the forest and there is a creek between the town and the forest. It's spot firing miles ahead of the main fire and then the spot fires grow and connect to the main fire.
We've been evacuated for two weeks now, they lifted the mandatory evacuation in Greenville a few days ago because they had containment lines around it and felt that things were stable enough to let people come back. We talked about going home, packed the stuff that we grabbed when we evacuated into our cars then talked about it some more, but we saw that the weather report was predicting high winds the next day so we decided we'd better wait another day and see how it played out.
The next afternoon the fire jumped the containment lines.

My daughter was put on evacuation warning wednesday as the River fire was coming at them super fast.
I was just up there finishing up their new bloom room I built them. We just transplanted and flipped the switch. I was headed back home when shitloads of trucks were headed that way. I get down to the valley and see huge fire up there. Wtf?
My daughter bailed and went to her moms in Nevada City, so i know she’s good. I don’t know how much more of this shit I can take. Where i’m rebuilding, because the Camp fire took my shit out, is WAY safer of an area than Paradise but we had 4 fires within a week and a half super close last year. Not to mention the Bear fire that was mando evac within a couple miles from me now. It’s all some fucked up shit.
I keep telling people that i’ll probably finish this build, sell and build somewhere else. But where the hell is a safe bet now?

That's a tough decision you have. My goal has been to get a piece of land somewhere in the sticks. Now I'm not so sure about that.
I can't imagine what you guys are going through.

I’m rebuilding out in the sticks. I thought it was a no brainer when looking for property. I do not feel safe.
I’m originally from the redwoods, Santa Cruz mountains. Huge fire there last year. I ended up in Paradise because i loved living amongst the trees. Not anymore though.

Fuck, man that's the worst. Hope your new build goes well and you've built fire resistance into the house, defensible space into the landscape plan, a pond with a water pump and generator, etc.
