The opinions of the few shouldn't interfere with the laws passed by the many.

Besides, there's an even darker twist to this. If either the California or the US Supreme court acts against Prop. 8 they are saying that we as citizens do not have the authority to decide for ourselves what laws we want, and that we can not make laws for ourselves.

They are also saying that the minority can overturn a law just because they oppose it. In that case, I suppose that laws banning, murder, rape, arson, and robbery be banned, because they prevent me from murdering, raping, burning and stealing.

The sheer absurdity of the concept of a minority being able to overturn a law by claiming to be disenfranchised is stupidity. There is a perfectly valid method for them to fight against the gay marriage ban, and that's the same way the supporters of the gay marriage ban got it enacted. By requesting a referendum to pass another Amendment to nullify that Amendment.

If they don't want to do it that way, then they should all be taken out and shot like DOGS.

Are you kidding me? Even the CONCEPT of having people vote on an issue like this is ridiculous. How do you compare GAY MARRIAGE to MURDER, RAPE, ARSON, and ROBBERY?! Nobody ever voted to make Murder, etc. illegal. Murder is also not something that ANY group of people are allowed to do, whereas marriage is something now that ONLY straight people can do here. It's pathetic.

It shouldn't be your right to vote on an issue that doesn't effect you. You shouldn't be allowed to vote on SOMEONE ELSE'S rights. These human beings should be taken out and shot like dogs?

All I am going to say is this...

1) If gay marriage is going to harm you, please tell me how.
2) I hope you live in CA because if you're not in CA, then you really shouldn't give a shit.
3) Comparing the right to get married to a violent crime is just :dunce::dunce::dunce:
4) Suggesting that ANY human being should be taken out and shot like dogs is bullshit, you should be ashamed.

This is CLASSIC segregation. White people can get married, blacks can not. Whites can stay out past curfew, blacks can not. Whites can vote, blacks can not. What the fuck gives ANY of you the right to VOTE on whats good for another human being? Would you want the right to discriminate against you to be on the ballot? Psh... You belong on the Jerry Springer show.

Also, if this is overturned, it has nothing to do with whether or not your vote counts, but the fact that it should not have been legal to vote to segregate and DISCRIMINATE against a group of people in the first place.

and YOU should change your name to ThePrejudicedTruth

and as much as I would like to, wishing the same discrimination on you would only make me the same type of ignorant trash.

How is my opinion any different from the idiotic views that those people are espousing, and how is my opinion prejudiced you dork?

If you are so sure that the amendment is wrong then you have the same tool that the people that passed the amendment have, and that's to seek a referendum.

Just because some minority disagrees with the laws does not mean they can turn around and say that the laws are wrong.

Hell, that hasn't exactly done growers, and smokers any fucking good has it, dumb ass?

Besides, any rational judge is going to uphold it. Constitutional Amendment in a realm that the States have the authority to legislate in for themselves, so the Federal Government has no right to try altering the law.

Especially not with out further breaking the Constitution in that it guarantees a Republican Form of Government to all states.

And dumb ass, your ignorance is as self-evident as your biased opinion. I never said anything about the morality of homosexuals. I just said they have the same exact tool to reverse the amendment as the people used when they enacted it, and that is a referenda.

Intolerant jack asses, can't even disagree on something unrelated to your sick perverted life-style with out you getting up in arms like a prepubescent teen hearing some one call Britney Spears a horrible mother.

I like how you did not answer a single questions about how someone elses sexual preference harms you, or the fact that you compared gay people getting married to murder, robbery, etc.

Also, you really didn't offer much to say about why you think it's okay for another human beings rights to be even up for negotiation on a roundtable of idiots.

So do you just go around blindly hating and discriminating, or are you going to be able to answer my questions without calling me a dumbass?

Not that I expect you to be able to offer anything intelligent to the conversation... so if you can't handle it, don't wear yourself out trying...

Here you are... in all of your glory.

The majority of the south didn't want equal rights for blacks, so with your reasoning as long as the majority of them vote for segregation there should be segregation. Screw minorities. If you were in charge the south would still be segregated, state rights, majority rules:wall::wall:

They absolutely should be able to do this. This is how a Republic works.

Besides, there's an even darker twist to this. If either the California or the US Supreme court acts against Prop. 8 they are saying that we as citizens do not have the authority to decide for ourselves what laws we want, and that we can not make laws for ourselves.
We, as US citizens are bound by "Rule of Law", not "Mob Rules". If the populace votes for legislation that is inherently unconstitutional, then the judicial branch has every right (as defined by the constitution whether it be state or federal) to rule on it's constitutionality. Again, that is how a Republic works. We're not a Democracy where the populace can vote for anything it wants.

They are also saying that the minority can overturn a law just because they oppose it.
As is their right as guaranteed by our state's and federal constitutions.

True, but they are entitled as citizens, to challenge a law. Of course they would have to present a case to the judicial branch that would "hold water" so to speak in order for the supreme court to hear said case. A person/group cannot simply say that they disagree with a given law and have their day in court. They'd have to present credible evidence as to why they feel said law is "illegal".

Who said I care if Gays are allowed to marry or not?

2) I hope you live in CA because if you're not in CA, then you really shouldn't give a shit.

By that reasoning, since no one here lives in Iraq we shouldn't give a shit about Iraq either.

Though indirectly it does effect me. The proposition that passed was a Constitutional Amendment, which means that if the courts strike it down they are effectively saying that the Constitution is only binding when its convenient for the State to adhere to it.

Of course, that's what the government has been doing for a while now.

3) Comparing the right to get married to a violent crime is just :dunce::dunce::dunce:

No one's interfering with their right to get married, just saying they can't marry each other. If they became straight they'd be able to marry people of the opposite sex.

Though I fail to see how they need marriage to rationalize their choices, or why they and people like you consistently confuse acceptance with tolerance. I don't have to accept your lifestyle in order to be able to tolerate it.

4) Suggesting that ANY human being should be taken out and shot like dogs is bullshit, you should be ashamed.

Screw that. Hussein, Hitler, Palpot, Stalin and Lenin all deserved to be taken out and shot like Dogs. Clearly in the case of tyrants it is justifiable, though perhaps you'd be more satisfied if I said they should all be given lethal injections.

The difference between Segregation and this absurdity is that segregation was violating rights based on something that was not controllable by the person. Namely their skin color. Large difference between that and this, but I supposed you're too much of an ignorant dumb ass to be able to see that.

Also, if this is overturned, it has nothing to do with whether or not your vote counts, but the fact that it should not have been legal to vote to segregate and DISCRIMINATE against a group of people in the first place.

I think I already addressed the fact that it is nothing like the segregation of the South and the discrimination that took place there, because if homosexuals became heterosexuals they would be able to marry their new partners. Their rights and privileges aren't being taken away, just defined so that they can not do as they wish.

and as much as I would like to, wishing the same discrimination on you would only make me the same type of ignorant trash.
Ignorant? this coming from some one whose arguments fail to hold anything but the void of complete and utter nonsense.

And your supposed to be a libertarian lol, why do you care what other people do with there lives? How does this affect you?
Who says I give a damn what they do with their lives as long as they keep it where it belongs, in this case namely, in the bedroom.

true... but the fact that gays have to earn their rights by protesting for weeks and months is just ridiculous... say a gay couple can't get married is like saying an interracial couple cannot get married, or only white people are allowed to get married...

prop 8 is classic racist bullshit just like the back of the bus or a special water fountains for blacks...

HUGE difference between skin color and sexual preference. i have yet to see any gays balled and chained. literally. or hung from trees, kept in cages, ......... kinda rude to blacks don't you think?

i'm just saying.

isn't it more comparable to our "right" to smoke pot? how come no one is taking that approach?

My Way News - Calif. Supreme Court to take up gay marriage ban

[FONT=Verdana,Sans-serif]SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - California's highest court has agreed to hear legal challenges to a new ban on gay marriage, but is refusing to allow gay couples to resume marrying until it rules.
The California Supreme Court on Wednesday accepted three lawsuits seeking to overturn Proposition 8. The amendment passed this month with 52 percent of the vote. The court did not elaborate on its decision.
All three cases claim the ban abridges the civil rights of a vulnerable minority group. They argue that voters alone did not have the authority to enact such a significant constitutional change.

now that is some shit worth posting about :)
I agree. And so is this: California Proposition 8 (2008 - Ballotpedia)
I'd like to know why so many blacks voted in favor of 8. I think they don't remember a damned thing, to be honest. The immediate and pertinent parallel to banning same sex marriage is banning interracial marriage, and I believe that on that ground it will be removed from our constitution (or, at least I sure in hell hope so!).
Catholic preists won't marry someone who isn't catholic, the government dosn't force Catholic preists to marry non-catholics
Agreed, it's a non-issue.

So, if some of you feel this way about gay marriage, what about interracial marriage?

As far as comparing slavery to this, again, non-issue. Slavery was ended generations ago, there are none left. At a certain point it's time to let it go. I'm sure that I have ancestors who were slaves of the Romans, what do I do, ask the Italian government for reparations, or move the fuck on? That's right, there's not a single black person alive who can tell you they were a slave. But, there are plenty who were prevented, up until about '67 or so in at least 16 states, from marrying via various laws by virtue simply of their skin color/heritage.

In this context, that being that you have no choice over your skin color (unless you're Michael Jackson) any more than you do your sexual preference, we are talking apples and apples.

I actually agree with Vi on this one . . . Government needs to back off, more social programs and market intervention will just prolong and enlarge the problem . . .

Obviously you've never driven by a gay bar in West Hollywood on a Saturday night. :bigjoint:

 I have! You're right!

Actually, I used to go clubbing throughout L.A., and one of my weirdest, yet most erotic experiences was seeing two guys in a very passionate embrace. Then in the bathroom another guy came in and peed in the sink. That pissed me off, so I chewed him out. If you're gonna use the LADIES room, use the toilet for the pee, the sink for the hands (I was pregnant at the time, so had particular interest in hand-washing).

Why should someone have to hide whether they're homosexual any more than one must hide that they're heterosexual?

they don't have to, but they could if they wanted. that was the point. that is all. you can't compare black and gay when gay is something that is not obvious.

stand a gay man and a black man side-by-side. you can question weather the gay man is gay or not. you can't really question the black man can you?

Seamaiden

True that. But it also makes distinguishing discrimination against the gay man more difficult, as distinguishing that against the black man could be considered to be more obvious.

And then we have Michael Jackson.

I wonder how many gays voted against gay marriage. I honestly think the answer would surprise of lot of us.
