Dad's collection has an large bore antique double barrel black powder pistol he obtained in the UK in the 50's.
I don't think it is a howda but possibly of marine origin (think pirate?).

Like a good radical lib she is spewing the party line she's told to, whether it's true or not.
i lean more to the liberal side than i do to the conservative, but am somewhere firmly in the middle in reality. i think it would be a good idea to make it harder for criminals to get weapons, by more stringent background check, stopping person to person sales at gun shows, and requiring people to register weapons and immediately reporting their theft...
but i also think that as long as you pass those background checks, you should be able to own whatever you want, just short of fully automatic weapons. i personally have no use for "high capacity assault weapons"...whatever the fuck those are...but if that's what it takes to make you feel secure, then knock yourself out...although you might want to lay off the twinkies, go jogging, and take a self defense course, it might make you feel like less of a pussy that requires a weapon with large ammo capacity to feel safe...if you can't hit what you're aiming at with one round, you should practice more, if you can't hit it with three rounds, just put the fucking gun down and get a knife, you suck and are more likely to kill an innocent bystander than whoever you're aiming at

I am largely in the same circle you are. I would stop short of registration as no one whom has them illegally will do that anyway so we are simply gathering data on legal owners. PTP sales happen all the time, I would guess in the community more so than at shows so I'm ambivalent on that point.
I am neither "Liberal" nor "Conservative" and do not follow party lines. I vote "undeclared" so I can pick whom I hope will be the best candidate - Unfortunately it has been more than a few Federal cycles since I saw anyone really worth voting for. All are too polar and refuse to work together (Lock Step party line). Far right & far left politicians + hostile activists can go f*ck themselves.

my point with the registration isn't to keep track of people, but to get them to report "theft" (and to not use it as a cover for person to person sales)...if a weapon is registered to you, and it is stolen, you have a lot more incentive to report the theft if you could still be held responsible for any injury caused by the weapon if it isn't reported, and it could be used to add to the penalties if you're using a stolen weapon to commit crimes.
you're right about the community person to person sales, but i've been to gun shows, and the non dealer tables (dealers are still required to run background checks, private citizens are not) are always selling a lot more than dealer tables...i'll admit that's where three of my weapons came from...and one came from a person to person sale with a co-worker...i guess i may be some what of a hypocrit, i haven't registered anything...but in Tn, local governments are prohibited from maintaining such records, i'd have to do some research and see who you would have to talk to at the state level
