I've played the mirror game with them in the past & felt bad about it.They are really cool fish. Did it see it's reflection yet?
Did you know they can stress out over that so much it can actually kill them.

This is why breeders keep them in plastic bowls or ponds for breeding ideally. No reflectionsI've played the mirror game with them in the past & felt bad about it.

Fairly well, I am still adjusting to making these finicky buggers happy.@GreatwhiteNorth how are your discus faring?
Are they fresh or brackish water? My fresh waters always ate eggs.Update.
The two largest, Super Eruption (mostly blue one) and Red Based Heckel cross laid eggs a couple of weeks ago & promptly ate them. Not unusual behavior - kinda wish I had learned that trick early in marriage.

They are native to the Amazon, so fresh/warm water however occasionally a bit of salt is used for medicinal purposes as necessary. Are they fresh or brackish water? My fresh waters always ate eggs.
Not current on names of brands now. But cichlid lake salts was my method years ago. Good luck. These guys are new to me. African Cichlids.
Loving them more and more every day. Much different to my usual communal tanks..
Added another filter to this 200l (50g) tank and working on how to raise the PH. They like it high, around 8. Substrate is Aragonite which helps raise the PH, but any tips would be appreciated.
Shit man what you wanna know. Female under the rock is the mate for the red alpha male, lake malawi hybrid likely. They are mouth brooders so dont be suprised if she stops eating, loses weight and cheeks get fat. Holding eggs/ babies. One with the narrow nose/ stripe. Prolly lake tangunita. Spell check. Dif african lake, lil dif ph. African cichlids are pretty hardy. But obviously test your water and act accordingly. A quality fish book from a book store would help. Nothing you cant find on the internet. Im kinda old school i like booksThese guys are new to me. African Cichlids.

That would have to be saltwater in my house with living corals and anemones. It's almost big enough for a shark.I am green with envy, I need this aquarium.
