They say there is a good deal of change with cmh because the spectrum is based on the exact temp the gas burns at. I guess even air cooling it affects the spectrum and even if its in a vertical or horizontal hood. I use a 315w for veg and I love it its a cheap horizontal 3k phillips but the spectrum seems fine for being horizontal.
Yeah we all know what "they say" I was asking for his take because he works for a lamp manufacturer. Hoping he has some real data showing a spectrum shift or change when operating at different wattages. Never mind if the lamp life is reduced, but what happens to the spectrum, like you said when the arc temperature is different.

it not like no changes at all, but it can be ignored.
Any CMH bulbs can work with high frequency ballast, but with the risk of crack, low frequency square wave ballast is reliable for CMH.

Thanks man. It was a must do and one of the first things I changed upon my arrival here. I do not even push these honestly. If a customer asks they get them. I would rather see them using the dual 500w or 630w or even numerous 315s. LED is pushing all of the HID market to the side quickly though. Unfortunately, if you are an HID bulb user, they may be relics in the near future. Happy Gowing

Hid has been around for how many years ? Now you won't be abe to get bulbs/lamps soon / near future ? Where is this listed as fact ? I would love to do further research sir/mam .

I did say maybe....lol,
but in all honesty I don't think it will affect the personal user of those types of fixtures. It will, however, affect the commercial or caregiver side of the industry. I have a theory that if your facility is running 277 then they (government entities on all levels) will probably allow you to use HID fixtures in a commercial, boutique or caregiver facility, but my guess is there will be added taxes or fines....where as with LEDs they give you and will continue to give you rebates. We will know for sure in less than a couple of years. Happy Growing.
