"Runoff pH is useless" or "Keep an open mind"?

Hear me out..what if you fed strictly N mix, then measured run off...then youd know how much it drank? Then repeat for P and K? Idk DTW or liquid fert well enough to discern if that's dumb or not, but would like someone to tell me if it is

Being the bum I am, while mixing soil not to long ago and noticing that something was not making sense with my blue lab soil ph pen, I just started (gently), pressing a regular ph pen (for liquids), into my soil and it works very well for getting ph.

I have been hesitant to advise because not sure how long your pen will be okay doing this and if it will work for others as well as it works for me but it seems like everything should be fine if your not an animal about it.

haven’t tried with ec pen and am organic now, so i don’t think I will be, I imagine it would work well too

@ mick I just blew you a kiss, I have a feeling you a lacking love in your life and forgot how to behave decent.

and wazup you too, one dedicated towards helping you not be so sad all the time.

you are both on ignore, so no need to respond to me and expect me to be able to see it
Il let you know what they said.

They laughed uncontrollably at your ph pen statement.

They did however enjoy the kisses.

Sounds like you're talking about EC, not pH.

What you're saying doesn't make much sense to me anyways, unless I'm missing something.

If your organic your plants are getting fed by the microbes. Ph of water doesn't matter unless what you are putting in is incredibly out of whack.

If you are feeding salt based nutrition what goes in Ph wise is all that matters. The pH level allows the plant to uptake immediately.

Testing runoff on salt based nutrients will only give you false readings. Pockets of salts build up. When testing runoff you will absolutely hit one of these pockets skewing the reading.

Again worthless.

so I can put my cannabis plants in my 4.5 soil and they will do just as well as cannabis plants in 6.5 soil?

That's a different topic all together. The ph of the soil and the ph of the runoff are 2 completely different things.
now if that’s what you are saying, I can almost agree.

runoff will not tell exact ph of soil. Is that what you are saying?

The pH of the medium does matter with chemicals too. This is a good thread with Renfro and DoubleAtotheRON.

Ph of medium no doubt. Ph of the runoff is a different conversation.

Just to not edit last post in case someone is responding, wanted to say.

to me, if I water a soil with 7.0 ph water and the run off is also 7.0 ph then I’m pretty confident the soil itself is very near 7.0 and that goes for any ph you want, not just 7.0.

I think that makes sense, until I see something saying otherwise.
