I'm curious how much you plan on pressing
@jonnynobody ? I get what your saying, I wouldn't want to work the press all day either, but rosin doesn't store well.
I generate a harvest every 11-12 weeks or so including trim and dry time. The market for flower is so saturated I thought I'd process 1/4-1/2 of my harvest into bubble hash then press that into rosin. I plan to setup the bubble hash station exactly like frenchy canoli:
I've gotta score the wash machine and a fresh set of bubble bags and I'll be jammin. I trashed my last set of by running them through the washer. Don't do that
The biggest sell for me on the 10 ton unit is the increased stability of the press itself while applying pressure + the extra 4 tons of press power. The pressure gauge is a nice little bonus too. If I press flower instead of bubble hash the process is a little easier to work through. I was pressing for about 6 hours the day I got it and I really grew tired of applying pressure while holding onto the unit. For a few presses here and there for personal use it's a great unit. If you're planning to sit in front of it for 8-10 hours each run I'd suggest the 10 ton for easier use.
And I bet you will start dabbing on the regular. Shit is addicting, especially with a tasty strain. I have a blueberry that is unbelievable. Better to take a hit or two of that than huff down a whole joint
I noticed something really interesting after smoking it for a couple days.
A) It takes very little to fuck you up and the high lasts a ridiculously long time whereas BHO highs hit hard and fast then gone in 2 hours. I always feel like I'm tripping when I smoke BHO and I really don't like that feeling at all. My tripping days are long over
B) The high sedates the entire body. When I use to smoke BHO the high was intense but only between the ears. Rosin makes my entire body feel like a warm pile of goo. In a good way. I don't feel like I just ate a handful of mushrooms like BHO has made me feel in the past.
C) After smoking it for 2 days and smoking little to no flower I smoked a bowl on day 3 and I got completely blasted. And I noticed how different the high was from smoking the rosin. I felt more sedated mentally and physically like when I got stoned for the first time in 7th grade. Smoking flower everyday for years kinda changes how your body reacts to it. Switching to rosin for a couple days seems to have reset my body's tolerance to flower.
D) Rosin is exponentially easier on the lungs. Don't get me wrong. I cough after burning up a huge dab, but it's short and I don't hack up a wad of phlegm like I usually do smoking bud. When I use to smoke BHO I'd hack up wads of phlegm in addition to hacking my lungs outta my mouth. I have no interest in ever smoking BHO again, but rosin is pretty dope.
As for storage - rosin stores incredibly well. The longer it's stored the more stable it becomes. Mine was pressed maybe 4 or 5 days ago and it's hard as saltwater taffy. I can take it out of the silicone container and roll it around in my hand. Not for long though. It will start melting
Bubble hash= long term storage Rosin = shorter term but dank ass dabs.
I love my 6 ton. It fits perfectly on my seed fridge and takes up hardly any space. In about 5 minutes i can have fresh dabs and that includes warm up. Shit budders up and/or hardens within 24hours so I only press enough for a night or two.
I noticed the same thing. It was harder to work with the day I pressed it and it hardened more each day. Super easy to work with once it's off the dam parchment. I don't even want to talk about the parchment
I have been following along, and I would like to get a press.
How important is consistent pressure? The bigger units come with a gauge, seems like you could get better, repeatable, results.
The YouTube videos I saw of the 6 ton unit he's pumping like a beast, looked like a pain in the ass. BUT the 12 ton units are twice the money, after you buy the remote hand pump. Is having twice the power, less physical work, and a gauge worth the extra cash?
With the 6 ton press you will quickly get a feel for appropriate pressure. It's like riding a bike then you can do it in your sleep. The 10 ton with remote pump is great if you've got an extra $200 to burn, but it is absolutely and wholly unnecessary for personal use. It's just nice to have
I spent under $400 for the 6 ton press and I'd recommend it to everyone for personal use processing.
The bubble should last anyway but once I crack into that temple ball it’s hard to resist haha. What kind of shelf life have you experienced with rosin? I have yet to make my own and didn’t even think of it having a shorter life. Just flavor loss or does it actually mold? Fridge help? Guessing freezing would ruin the flavor anyway.
I've never had an issue with long term concentrate storage. No risk of mold after the bubble hash is processed and dried. As long as it's in a silicone / glass container not subject to oxidation it should last indefinitely. I can't imagine freezing would cause anything detrimental to the quality.
The rosin I have looks exactly like a temple ball due to the over dry material I used. Once the resin glands oxidize the rosin produced will be dark. It has no bearing on the quality of the product assuming quality product was used to make the rosin. It's just oxidation and nothing more. When I fan it up with my whipping utensil and spread it out in the light it's a see through beautiful amber. The stuff is gorgeous. It consumed a shit ton of material to make it though
