Anybody ever use this as a top soil spray for fungus gnats?, or is it just a waste of time.... I battle FG's every grow it seems. I've tried sticky traps, mosquito dunks in my mix tank (in a netted bag)... they seem to just appear out of nowhere. I rarely see one flying around, but I capture some when I lay out the sticky traps. Or maybe can I mix it in with my feed?

I used this as a foliar spray with crushed mosquito bites for my first outdoor grow and they disappeared almost immediately.

A “mulch” made of equal parts perlite to coco coir with a heaping handful of diatomaceous earth per gallon of coco/perlite works well for me.

You run a good sized grow dont you? The only grows I dont have FG is when I use my own compost. The hyoaspis miles in there clean up gnat larvae from the jump so there are never flyers. Probably not a feasible solution for you to do your own compost but some beneficials would do it. I never had luck with dunks and I dont believe spino will work for gnats, thrips yes.

I had an early invasion of Thrips in the Mother Tent. I did a soaking spray at lights out on all of them with Spinosad, getting under all leaf surfaces, and that seems to have killed them off. But these MFing FG are just annoying. Id like to know if a top soil spray every few days will help.

I might give that a try. Im going up to OKC on Wed to pick up some Nutes in bulk, and some netting, I'll see if they stock any.

you dont have to pick them up locally. You can order them live shipped to anywhere and then follow the instructions to apply them in your situations. I thought u were coco which would work I think but it wouldnt help in DWC I think the medium has to be able to harbor the beneficial nematodes so they can kill the rest of the shit

I get a lot of gnats from the compost in my worm bin because it’s mostly just fruit and veggie scraps. In my exp Spinosad works well against leaf munchers but won’t much bother fungus gnats.
I suggest using diatomaceous earth against FGs but it’s more preventative than proactive; you need sticky traps to catch them if they are already flying. A good thick layer of DE will kill any larvae in the soil. Use an applicator to atomize the DE to a fine mist.

I had a few issues in my coco and decided to try the nematodes and it all went away but It was probably initially due to too much watering

perhaps the soil is too mucky or something but, my understanding is the nematodes will help you interrupt the life cycle. The fungus gnats could be due to things breaking down in the soil or like you said things that were dormant becoming live. I had this problem with some happy frog, now im in coco coir. I know a good route is either adding beneficial nematodes or adding worm castings

most of the time fungus gnats over a long period of time is due to overwatering/ underwatering (moisture infrequency)

if you fix the moisture infrequency and the plants thrive, the fungus gnats go away because no roots are decaying in the medium

Never used DE... does it come in a liquid?.. I'd rather not put crushed DE on my topsoil, I hear it makes a mess. Trying to treat 90 plants, so looking for the easiest way to control them.

Prefer not too, as when it comes time to feed, which is every day, it'd be a pain in the ass. I don't feed every one of them at the same time, but I may have 12 one day, 45 the next, 27 the next. They just don't all eat at the same rate.

Keep a eye on shelf life of the Nemo's.. They dont last long...

I use Capt. Jacks but I've never sprayed on soil like ur application so can't speak on it's efficacy...can't hurt to try
