Lets talk about re amending

In the sea of products to use I considered them but without any experience with them they fell off the radar. They have a pretty strong following here, sounds like for good reason. I could probably use this in my sips but would take some experimenting with and some periodic top watering which I do anyways with soluble fertilizer

So I made some new soil yesterday, idea being I could mix this with the older stuff.
Have a feeling that with all the 444 Ive added my Ca maybe climbing.pH tests showing a slight more green then fresh stuff.
Added more kelp, alfalfa ,frass and dialed back the 444.
I think my future add backs will have less Ca in them.My water has plenty.

Great topic. I am pretty new but really trying to learn the dynamics of keeping healthy soil and reusing it over and over :) so be lurking around this thread.
Top dressing is directly related to the size of pot you use. The bigger the better. My 10g sips are just too small for bigger plants.

The calcium in your hard water May not be available to plants.

My water is extremely high in calcium and magnesium and I use it only when I must.

This is true but using same dirt over time, like years, you'd think it has to build up.Some of my soil is almost 2 yrs old now.

Was using my water a lot during drought a few years ago and had multiple deficiencies and lockouts, thought I was doing them a favor with my famously hard water until a member here informed me of the inability of plants to absorb calcium in that form. As soon as I switched to lake water (labor intensive) my plants immediately improved.
If I must occasionally use it I dilute 50/50 with rain or lake water.

Is that even a word?

I know we should go by how are plants look and what seems to be low ,but in general do we use a percent of what we used when we first mixed?

Or Is it as simple as just add back the same amount of dry food and cook again?

Ill be on my 4th round with this soil,it needs help.

What say you?
Initial fertilizer should have a P input, but re-ammending should not have P

I use Coot’s Mix and take the ball root out and feed out it in the worm bin. Then amend with equal parts castings, aeration, and peat moss (2gals) half the amount (1/2 cup) of kelp, crab meal, and Neem seed meal. This last round I put a 1/4 cup of oyster shell which could have done with out. This is my 3rd or 4th round with it and haven’t had problems. I do top dress through out the grow with worm castings, bio-live, alfalfa, Neem seed meal, fish bone meal. However since my soil is in a large sip I’m going to remove the roots in the reservoir then plant crimson clover and let the worms and microbes break down the dead roots from last grow. I will probably mix up another couple cubic feet of coots mix

They look nice for sure, but I dont think the yellowing is from N alone. I'm willing to bet that it's iron chlorosis. Maybe a little of P toxicity? Read up on the problem before you dismiss it anyways. I've been dealing with P tox pretty often.
i cringe looking back at subcools recipe with all the phosphorus

P tox which pic? This round I was leery of Ca tox so was top dressing with kelp, alfalfa and frass.Almost no P other then the little 444 I added. Thanks.

Oh and why no P for re-amending?

Here's a few pics of my current run, small plants in the 2 gallon pots in front look pretty healthy but the 2 big ones in back definitely are having issues, really should have top dressed them at the start of flower.
But they are still stacking up fairly nice.
First run with after switching from his to led, definitely nice to be able to take pics with the light on and they seem to stack better so far.
Flipped on Dec 1 so been flowering for around 4 weeks.

I wasn't saying that you had a full blown P tox issue and your buds look great. I was just sharing a common issue that I have, actually dealing with it now. My last soil test said I was low in P, so I listened to my agronomist and added bone meal. Now, I'm dealing with micronutrient deficiency. I stopped using fish for that reason also. There are other ways to chelate micronutrients other than using fish. I started using soy bean meal and bottled humic acid, it's the only bottle that I use. The whole reason behind Clackamas Cootz recipe was to achieve lower P, just a thought.

It was Tad Hussey on KiS Organics that said to not re-ammend P. He also suggested getting your soil tested to take the confusion out.
