Holy crap you guys are getting raped
Here in Southern Alberta I pay $0.0669/ kWh.

My entire energy charge for December was $42, whole house included with 638 kWh.

That's a 300 watt TSW2000 (12/12), a 150 watt TSW1000 (18/6), an AC Infinity T4 on setting of 8 (24), three 8 inch clip on fans on high (24), one 20 inch oscillating fan (24).

Checking my smart plugs, the grow room used 193.45 kWh so that's $12.94 cost for a month.

I called my power company - I would have to swap meters do a day/night meter and it wouldn't be that much of a savings after everything was said and done. Looks like I just grin and bear it and call it the cost of another hobby

Looks like 12 cents per kw. I think the power company has a minimum to do the day/night thing. I got to get a watt meter.

Here we have a two tier system. So my grow puts me into the second tier unfortunately. 12.5 cent per Kw.
Puts me between 40-50$ a month for my veg and flower tents.

My needs are low so I only need one small grow per year. I do that during the winter months so the extra heat isn't wasted. I think from a physics stand point, anything that doesn't end up being used by the plant ends up as heat.

Growing gets expensive. Run in off peak hours, and get a heater. Maybe switch to hid for the winter. You can pick up 600w hps/mh for $100-150 not much more power than what you’re using but a good bit more radiant heat. Get a space heater going during lights out. If you live alone: mini fridge, toaster oven/air fryer, hot plate. In the summer hang dry your clothes instead of using the dryer(if you get your basement warm/dry enough you can hang dry them there in the winter)

I'm not setup for off peak/peak pricing. Just going to deal with the $100 a month and call it a day. Don't want to run a space heater and rack up even more costs. I could cut out the hot pepper tent and that would reduce my costs by 1/2 but I want those spicy chilis!

There is nothing cheap about growing your own. I pay more to grow my vegetables than i could buy them for. But the store doesn't compare Thats why its important to shoot for quality or its a losing game

Off peak pricing saves me SOOOO much. I have a temp & humidity controlled room though so IDGAF what the outside is like until summer heat overruns my AC If you've got your own place I highly suggest installing climate control.

When I spoke to them about off peak pricing it wasn't that much of a difference. I would have to use the majority of our electric off peak (we don't, we work from home) to make it worth it. Just the 2- 450w lights running at night would not offset the cost of my computer/server tv's lights, etc just from living during the day.
I do have my own place and my tents have their own room in the basement. I could run a small heater - I just don't know that I want the extra costs

electric heat is brutally expensive. My old tiny tiny heater drew more power than my 1000w HID. I now use a natural gas CO2 generator for heat & CO2.

That's exactly what I do. I run an HID during off-peak hours. The heat is welcome as I grow in an unheated garage. I have a small space heater that comes on during the day when the light is off. It works out great.

That’s my plan for heat next winter when I’ll have enough light and a big enough canopy for it to make sense to run co2.

Yes, I think if I ran my 1200w ceramic space heater on the off hours to keep it at like 65 at night - would really add to my electric bill.

Between 3 tents, about 2000w lighting, and all the environmental stuff my electric bill sits around 250/mo but I’m one dude in a small apartment.
