Just a little clarification.....
"Stand your ground" language in the SDA says anyone who is legally where they are has "no duty to retreat", and they can defend their position with force, up to and including deadly force.

Another commonly referenced section of the language is....

"Castle doctrine"...which says that unlawful forced entry into a structure, building, house, garage.....(the SDA even expressly lists "attached porch" and "tent") is assumed to be with intent to do harm, and deadly force may be used to defend yourself (only if you are in your right to be there and in your right to prohibit the other person from entering)

The SDA does not expressly list "No Trespassing" signs as reason for using deadly force.

Using SDA as reasoning for using deadly force can get you into a sticky situation. If you ever use it, you are making an affirmative defense, admitting guilt but saying that the law allowed you to do it under the circumstances. If your reasoning is challenged, you have already admitted guilt.

To be clear, I support gun ownership, hunting, self defense, and I encourage training.

County is different. I clarified with my local office. Property in the County is looked at differently because in the city, some of that property is city owned... like the street, alleyways, etc.

.. so yeah, they can come and trim my trees that overhang the county road to 16 ft from the center of the road without my permission. But the ditch is pretty wide, so really not much else they can do.

.... and she's old... I rescued her from an abusive owner when she was about 4? maybe 5 years old. I've had her for 7-8 years. You used to not even be able to touch her or have a broom in your hand, she'd freak the fuck out. Now, I can trim her nails (which I need to do) and she's all relaxed. She gets lots of lovin'

But otherwise, I have 16 cameras with phone alerts, digital solar tripwires that send a signal up along the drive (which is about 1600 ft long) motion detectors, the normal stuff for owning a grow op. One will go off at 4 am... but I just figure its a deer or rabbit.... which looking back on camera footage, thats the case most all of the time.

out where my farm is, after the county road ends it's miles & miles of 4x4 roads thru private properties. Each property owner maintains their portion of the road....or not. All my neighbors are well established pot farmers in rural Northern California. It's all private property out here. There was a petition going around to improve the access road and bring in electric power, almost no one signed it. The Sherriff only comes out here rolling 3 deep and they never do single patrols. There's no cell service on our farm so you couldn't call for help even if you wanted to. We are our own police force out here. If you wind up at my farm gate it was not by accident...

At 300 hundred a pound it doesnt seem like there is much need for enforcement.

Not that low yet... but we are seeing growers drop out... like 1000 last month, so maybe things will self level. I look at it as a hobby now, something to do. Im pretty much retired anyways. I don't have a regular job. In the beginning, we were getting $3K a lb, now its around $700 to $1600 depending on your labs.

@doublejj ... I thought this would be our last year too, but with the dropping MJ businesses, it can see a little light at the end of the tunnel. But, since Paige just landed this at home job, it's gonna take a load off of depending on the grow op. Neither one of us has worked Corporate in 4 years. It's been nice sleeping in till noon, and she still may be able to do that since she'll be working from home, but damn!... this is a cutthroat biz.

I hear ya brother... Trimmers are working for ~$75-$100 a lb hand trimmed. It used to be $400 a lb trimmed when we were getting $3000 a lb. but, everything shifts with the market.
My farm is primary a share crop operation. I have the farm with 2 large greenhouses and all the infrastructure (solar well) and propane generators, shipping containers for drying and processing and provide all grow supplies and the crew provide labor and their own living expenses and we split the harvest after paying trimmers. It's been a really good operation until recently. One of the crew handled all the brokering too, he is 2nd generation pot grower and well connected, i was lucky to have him. He had a lot of experience too.

Good for you man... good luck in the future, but I got a feeling that soon, weed will be as cheap as wheat or sugar as more and more States come online.. even if it goes fully Fed dropped, anybody can grow it, and it will crash the small guys, and Marlboro, or another Pharma Company will command the market.. killing us small grow ops.
