The queen is dead.

Really? Coming from a Canadian? So when are you all moving back? The fact I have the decency to respect the mourning and timing does not translate in a Trumpian dichotomous way to “love” from me, which in turn does not translate to what “Europeans” love. I‘m sure she came up but I read nothing about Elizabeth in these forums yet now she‘s an evil colonizer who should give back diamonds to solve poverty in a country that added 1.3billion people without a single care for the individual. Yeah that’s way too woke for me.
We've had discussion on blood diamonds and other topics UK over the years. The threads are here should you care to look them up.

OP sets the tone. <shrug>

I don’t know if this thread could qualify as portrayal either way but, as a national symbol tens of millions across all generations will mourn, a little less disrespect this week would be cooler than the cool kids think they are by bashing what they so clearly don’t understand. Like libraries, and shouting in them.

That’s ok considering the rest believes she was the CEO or ruler of the UK or even the Commonwealth till the day she died. Tell them the Superbowl and 4th of July had a baby, and it died. Sad times. Very sad.

I’m a republican too. But the way I use that word and monarchy doesn’t match yours. Cultural language difference. When you hear monarch you think politics, a ruler who gained power by birthright, and rightfully respond anti-establishment, anti-monarchy is part of your country’s identity. When I hear monarch I think born to be a mascot for life and dying tradition. It doesn’t have the same weight, and doesn’t imply political power or supression of democracy. Sure, lots of influence, like most rich folk have. Guess what, we’re still all ruled by the elite.

Why do you allow it?
This shows you know who holds the power to allow something.

I'll focus on the good things that come from the situation. I'm very aware of the bad. It's territory us Plebs can't do much about anyways. Just make the best of it. It all comes with a price.
What’s your point exactly?

I'm not sure of your point here, but I do know that being the UK Monarch is certainly more than just being a mascot for life. Unless you think that's what a Head of State is?

Mascots don’t bilk the publics income, mascots don’t own most of the land in a democracy, mascots don’t have butlers and footmen and opaque financial accounts which can’t be audited due to laws protecting the sovereign.

How old was Trump when he got his first real job?
Let's hope King Charlie 3 doesn't fuck up as bad as King Trump, or King Charlie 2.
Prince Andrew is in the basement at 11%!
I was never a big fan of monarchy, but since Trump I've been reconsidering...
