Let's try this again - Damn caterpillars

So I'm a newbie and that's evident here! I cut a plant and hung it to dry. I did not observe any bud rot or caterpillars. After letting it hang for a few days I saw caterpillars on the floor below. Is there anything I can do with my plant now?

buy some screens and turn it into keif hash....this is my standard cookie cutter response to these situations. Others will come in and give their preferred method...some prefer dry ice hash, others still like rosin press, or even edibles. They all revolve around the concept that while buds and colas may not be perfect for flower consumption, the trichomes are the medicine and that's what you should try to recover before deciding to throw away an entire plant.

I mean I always find a couple caterpillars when I wet trim the buds before hanging up, I still smoke it dont judge, I do grow strictly outdoors so you cant really avoid all of them.

Mudballs and xadzer are both right. I recommend going through it bud by bud, you'll likely find webbing or other debris, sift that shit or toss it. But you're just as likely to find some clean bud you can smoke with no worries. Back in the brick days we used to see eggs and bug/worm parts when cleaning seeds from weed, and believe me we did not toss it in the backyard fire pit. We smoked it and none the worse for it.

yeah lol these are plants specially if you grow outdoors you cant expect them not to have shit on them, its nature, clean it and smoke it this isnt bud rot. I mean unless you dont care about months of work growing in the trash over a damn caterpillar.

Right on. I actually did toss a distressing amount of Alien last year, they were all over it and I had too much other trimming to do and haven't dived into any sifting etc. yet so out it went. It was my first grow and once I got my head around the surplus I was going to have without it, pitching it seemed like the way to go. If I'd had less work to do maybe, but as it was I culled what was obviously lousy but I still got to keep some. :peace:

I'm not worried about it to the point that I would throw it away. I just was wondering if there was anything I could or needed to do with it. I did not know how long (days) it would take for them to fall off the plant. I plan on buying some Bacillus Thuringiensis today to put on the additional plants that aren't ready yet. Thank you for the help.

I'm a country girl and I can tell you I'm sure I've eaten worse than a caterpillar! Lol. I just was wondering if there was anything I could or needed to do with it. I would just do my best to go out there everyday multiple time and try to spot and pick off caterpillars, town what they got and protect the rest. I wouldn't spray my buds if they are at the point of coming down soon.

Once you cut your plant down it was probably off of it within 2 days. They want live plants. That does mean that there is likely a spot in your hanging plant he was munching try to find it and cut it out.

Examine the buds closely as they dry. Clean ones are ok for personal use. Learn for next year to take preventive steps. May be to late this year. My experience is even with bt you can get some cat damage.

The trichomes are cloudy, but not amber yet, so what do you think?

Impossible to tell without a picture but I personally would not want to spray bt at this point, I'm sure others would disagree. If you are going to do a bud wash at harvest though you may be fine. Have you used bt before? I'm not trying to spray that onto my buds.

I'd look more towards citric acid if you want to kill any eggs left on the leaves. How big are your plants? It it is not unreasonable to wipe down leaves I'd opt for that over spraying at this point. Look into citric acid as well it'll kill the eggs already on the leaves but may not prevent more being laid in the flowing days. It's a tough balance, I have a love hate relationship with outdoor growing lol.
