Here is the purple Palmera pheno from the side, I've been tying it up every which way I can, it's like a weed octopus:

Hope you guys are staying warm! This was the coldest morning of my entire life I think, unless my parents took me some crazy place when I was a baby.
Loving the colors and the way them buds have swelled up :weed: :hump:

Thanks Jeff! I love when leaves get that lime/yellow/purple combo on the leaves. I'm glad I have one purple plant this time for variety.

This is unrelated, UPS delivered me a solid ice block of Root Riot cubes for the next cycle, which I should get started soon. I'm just not sure how long these are going to take to finish, I scoped everything and it's all clear/milky trichomes, and nothing has the look of ripeness yet. I think the grapefruit pheno Cindy will be the first one ready in 2 weeks, maybe 1 month for everything, so 13-15 weeks for the whole crop, longer than I expected, especially from the Cindy and Sweet Tooth. Of course, my "ripeness" probably would freak some people out lol.

All right I'll bite why is that lol

Haha, sorry Jeff, I missed that. Having some weather related issues as are many others I'm guessing. I just meant because I usually let all my strains go 14 weeks at least, I like to have a lot of amber.
No worries we are in the deep freezer here nothing wrong with amber ether the last time I grew Panama Road I ran it 21 or maybe 22 weeks :weed: (last time was in 92 holy hell I'm old)

The 90s were my heyday for growing landraces for me too. I grew out seeds from good Mexi brick weed for years, and honestly that was as much fun as growing out different seed packs today. Landraces were pretty widespread in the early 90s but NAFTA changed everything. All the small plot subsistence corn farmers lost their livelihoods overnight, and those were the folks who kept the landraces going for generations. Anway, that's when I noticed a big change over to hybrids, so I quit buying brickweed. I love Panama Red, I actually like all the red hair Mexican strains too. The Cherry Bomb I want to grow out originated from red hair BOEL Oaxacan bud that was shipped into Hawaii, which is where the pink hairs come from. I'm going to grow out some Oaxacan later this year, not this next cycle, but the one after.

It is a shame really but it is happening everywhere change the good the bad the ugly and in my opinion the weed of today is sadly missing something from yesterday's

But what I can say about the future of weed is it is bright because people are willing to share their information with each other and back in my day that didn't happen so much

I totally agree Jeff, and hopefully with more and more legalization, more preservationists will join in and help save the foundational landrace genetics. I love how today we can get so many landrace strains directly from the source all over the world, and how we have folks like Madmac doing Ohaze/THH preservations with 10+ each males/females. With the internet connecting everyone and more and more states/countries legalizing, I think the future of preservation is bright too.

Merry Christmas Everyone! Hope everyone (and their plants) is staying safe in this cold weather.

Hey Rurumo

I'm running a Scorpion Diablo, It's probably very close to your light.

I have a couple of questions about light height above the canopy and % power on the dimmer.

Last grow I dial'd up to 90% and the top colas were inches below the light. All of my leaves burned off, except the sugar leaves, colas were great. Great harvest 1230 grams with 4 plants under 600 watts.

This grow my canopy is 12" below the light and the leaves seem to be growing ok. Again set on 90% power.

Questions:

1. What height should I keep my light above the canopy? I imagine this is as well a function of light power %.

2. What % power are you keeping your light? What if all the room you have is 12 between light and canopy? What power then?

Thanks!

.
I am running the Scorpin Diablo also, have been using it since early this year. I have had health issues this year and was not able to care for the plants as I should have and lost all three attempts.
I am now healthy and have a new grow going that I started with clones on 12/9 and so far so good.
I spoke with the folks at HLG last week to discuss light height and power setting. I told him I was at 24" @ 70%, he said that should be perfect for plants at that stage of growth. He also said that when I go into flower I can go to 18" @ 100% but to watch for any bleaching and to raise the lamp and back off the power, like 22 to 26 inches at 80 to 100 percent if I notice any bleaching. I don't think will go below 20" at anytime during the grow. At least until I get more comfortable.
You can see my journal @ https://www.rollitup.org/t/winter-2022-23-gro-flo-ebb-and-flow-run.1083519/page-2#post-17205311, or in my signature below for pics of the grow.

@Rurumo, hey hope you don't mind me post my info in your thread. Really like what you did with this grow.

Thanks gr865, I'm always happy for people to join in and post any good info that might help someone else. Dialing in lights is hard!

As far as travel goes, morocco is high on my list. I love good morroccan hash. The plants are supposed to be super drought tolerant and are great for the sea of green.
When I see fields of plants in Morocco, I'm always amazed that they survive because of the drought stress, but it probably also enhances resin production. I'd love to visit Morocco, my sister went for reasons totally apart from my interests, but she loved it there, especially the food. The hippies visiting the famous hash regions back in the 60's really had it made-to be able to "safely" backpack through Afghanistan....if 1960's Afghanistan were around today, the tourist economy would be huge! Of course, they just released that French serial killer in Nepal who targeted hippies on the "hippy hash trail" back then, so they did have that guy to worry about back then, and also I guess, again right now.

They're supposed to be really sensitive to over watering. I'd love to get some of those pure genetics since they're being flooded with dutch seeds now. They still make great hash there but it's mostly dutch and not the creamy, chocolaty moroccan.

Just a quick update, these are just of the 2 Palmera again. I wanted to document the 2 phenos and send Angus at TRSC some pics/info, in case he wants to use any in his strain description, because his current description doesn't really do it justice:

This pic, + following 3 are all the "purple pheno."

I like foxtails...Trichs are mostly milky + I can see a few ambers now that I took these pics. Both phenos are swelling like crazy and require daily retying up.

Green pheno. I love the look of both of these plants, but usually the longer running pheno ends up having the better high. We'll see!

Green pheno has a ways to go still. These pics are at about 11.5 weeks.

Thanks for stopping by and be careful out there shoveling snow folks!

Now is definitely the time to pick up landrace genetics, while we still can. That's the argument I make for myself every time I buy a pack of seeds lol.
