Starting Indoor then move outdoor in early May questions

Yo,

Michigan Grow

Getting pumped for the new outdoor season and have picked out my strains for this years grow. Last year was my first outdoor grow so I'm new to the whole outdoor game (I think I like outdoor better then indoor) and was wondering about starting indoor to get a head start then moving outdoors in early May.

Most indoor vegs are under 18-6 or 24-0 light schedule and from what I've read an immediate placement outdoor in spring could cause the plant to start flowering under those light schedules so I'm wondering could I just veg with a light schedule that is closer to the amount of sun they will get outside? Would vegging indoor under like 16-8 or 15-9 work? Would that reduce the chances of them flowering?

I know for indoor flower 12-12 is the norm but does anyone know the limit? would 14-10 induce flowering or is it strictly at the 12-12 mark?

I had planned on popping my seeds mid-March and then outdoor early May in a greenhouse for a week to adjust before I moved them to my grow area.

Anyone think this isn't worth it and I should just wait until spring. Only reason for me to start early is I'm excited and want to get after it and get a solid start.

I germinate in the middle of Arpril. The main thing that could get you into trouble is the lights in the grow room. If the lights on time is longer than the daylight hours, like 18 hours on and the daylight hours are 13 or 14, you may get flowers. That was one of the meny things some growers did that tried to grow in my field.

I set my lights to the daylight hours on the day I plan to plant. It works for me.

Run the indoor 16-8 plant out mid late may you will be fine.

Thanks man! I was just looking at a I guess you would call it a sun calendar which shows sunrise, sunset and day length for where I'm at and its showing about 15 hours of daylight in mid to late May with it maxing out mid-June with 15.5 hours of daylight.

I'm guessing running the 16-8 would sacrifice some growth but be the smoothest transition without overcomplicating things.

14.5 is the actual flip point. 15 they veg. 14 they flower.
Start seeds on 15-9 or 16-8 Stay on the low hour light up to late May or the 1st of June. I'm down at latitude 33 and in actual practice only June and July have long enough days to veg outside. By Aug 1st the days have shortened up again and I see flowers start by mid Aug.

Your other option is to say screw all that time matching crap and run light over them 24-0. This is what I do after years of failed time matching.

What part? I used to chat with a guy in Maine that ran much the same with an earlier setout and a later lights off (Mid Aug) Like me he'd said screw time matching and started running 24-0 from Seed in Feb to lights off in August.

Pretty tough running anything past mid oct here in maine if iam not in full flower by early aug most yrs iam fucked. Iam going to try running lights 24-7 till june 21 on some outs this yr. Full Light Depo is the way to go here.

Ahhhh you need to beat the clock with an early finish.
I did that here this year. A 24-0 or any long day plant can be tricked into early flower up to a month sooner then they would normally trigger. 24-0 to July 1st then kill the Aux lights. Plants should show flower 2 weeks later about mid July and by the time the plant might have reacted to the long days we are past Aug1st and in flower length days anyway and flower progresses normally.
I've had 10 years of playing with the weed and seeing what can be pulled off outside in the off season since it never freezes here.

I would match the light to outdoor lighting as close as possible. Some strains can be pretty picky. I plan to grow from seed outdoors this year but I might change my mind before May. Mine get huge anyway so not sure There is an advantage to starting Indoors.

Some strains show pre-flowers at 15-9 so most run 16-8 for early start and a late May setout. I did best running that cycle but the clones don't root well under it. My crappy conditions most likely.

I usually veg 24 hr and put them out May 24, last year started seeds April 28 th and put out may 24 th. They got big in big pots. I'm thinking of starting a bit early and flowering under the best sun of the year May June July and august. In light dep greenhouse. My fall sunshine is limited and too many thieves in my city!
