The humidifier is on. When I open the tent door all the humidity goes out right way. The outside temp is 16°F.

If you are experiencing the water leak right out through the bottom when you water them, that is most likely not because the cups/soil don't hold much water that is because your soil has become hydrophobic.

Water slowly, if you intend to water 3oz give it 1oz at a time in order to better saturate the soil. You could also get/use soap, yucca, aloe or a few other things as a wetting agent to help your water better saturate your soil.

3 ounces doesn't leak right out, but any more will leak right out.

I estimate 30% of the bottoms of the cups are removed because of the drill holes. I used a 1/2" drill bit.

The soil will hold a lot more than you expect if allowed to. You may need to do what @Nope_49595933949 suggested to wet the soil appropriately.

I would definitely not go with terra cotta pots, especially if your humidity is only 36%. Plastic is perfectly fine.

As others said, it seems like you need to be adding more water at a time. Dry soil can hold at least 1/4 to 1/3 its volume in water. Seriously, do not be afraid to let them just sit in a tray of water 1/2" deep and soak it up for an hour or two. It will not hurt them, and then you can be reasonably sure they are completely saturated after that.

Good call everyone. Basically I added 3 ounces water each and only had a little runoff. Like maybe 2 ounce from all three. So I added 3 more ounces and now they all seem saturated and heavy. They'll continue to soak for 30 minutes or so.

Tbh babies in that size cups, if you're really soaking them when you water, it could be 4-5 days before they need water again...

Thanks for the tip. I increased the humidifier and will continue to monitor to get there,

If the humidity gets too high the inside side walls of the tent start sweating so.... it's a balance. That basement is chilly. Inside the tent is fine. I have the light on 24/7.

The humidifier is throwing rain. Now the plastic windows are fogging on the inside.

Maybe I shoould switch to mushrooms.
