Chop journal

Week 17. Scrog tool to keep a uniform canopy. 2 nets. Coco 3 gallon 90/10 coco/pearlite. GH maxi.

This run ended up being about making it to harvest without budrot and a huge lesson learned on pushing high ppfd, EC and letting coco dry out. Hense the leaves.

Very crowded and virtually never pruned or def. Just suckers that I now realize can be lit up with strip lights, though only 5 ppfd over the buds, they do eat it up. I adore the buds just as much as cannot wait to smoke.

Just a journal of the last 3 weeks as this is going to be tricky to chop all in one. The larf canopy may take longer to ripe deep inside. Any tips, comments welcome.

About a week later. 2-3 more to go. Maybe 4. Just some photography shots of bud and overall canopy shot. Will do photos weekly. Any comments welcomed. Today is start of week 18.

Holy Dreadlock Rasta Batman!
If anything since you say you haven't defoliated, you could harvest what's above the net & remove any blockage going down the center to let light in.
Is there a separate drying space?

At the very least I would remove all the large leaves if it were mine. It'll allow for better air flow, and it's a step forward in preventing mold.

I read defoliating could chance budrot unless I do it when lights first come on to help avoid that. I am timid to do it, I got over a lot of things but this is scary because I am at the very end and do not want to mess up with rot.

I keep cleaning scissors and getting in there just to go “damn” and change my mind. Normally I could leave it be and just harvest though next time would opt for less clutter.

It is packed so tight and the leaves go so far into the bud that I get timid trying to defoliate. There are areas I cannot reach even if I wanted to defoliate.

so the strip lights r potentiating your larf/popcorn inner nugs?
looks really good, even tho they're not 12" colas.

Yea, they made the buds grow pretty close to normal. They fattened up and are resinous. They are so weak (lights) they can be up against buds which make them good for space buckets.

They cost a lot to run considering effeciency with wattage so it is probably better to just have one main canopy but it works.

Just woke up forgetting to empty dehuey and 82%RH. How I haven’t got budrot yet is beyond me. Damn this really sets me off, mad at myself.

Hope you kept the door open on her & pointed a fan in there.

2 fans one below and above canopy and exaust fan on max. I do not see anything sus or smell anything weird. It was probably for just a few hrs. Not good but all seems good.

Edit: I have areas to dry it but it will reak but I guess that is ok for a week. I could chop in sections and might have to. Would you in order to avoid rot or let it ripe in one piece? Hense the thread, not much harvests made by myself.

Going to clip dead leaves. Getting anxious, trying to avoid rot or pm. I am going to say screw it and just get to trimming. You don’t think the heat and light stress caused a later finish do you?

I keep reading that stress can cause white hairs to keep coming but the plant seems to be genuinely growing.

I want to say it got worse but due to already being toast of a leaf. Might chop in sections but it grows white hairs here and there on the sides deeper inside the canopy or bud.

I am not sure how to get the dead sugar leaves though. Might snap a bud by accident. Trying to finish properly is better than chopping early as lessons learned to avoid loss right?

I don’t mind waiting but when it looks like this… idk.

Just tried and finally brought myself to clip like 5 leaves and realize I am so damn close to finish I should wait it out another week or two and probably be looking at a decent chop in terms of ripeness.

It is so bunched up, I also cannot even get in there. My next grow I plan on being able to reach anywhere needed and keep green this time. There could be mold spreading and not only would I not see it until it spread, I would have a hard time even getting to it.

End of 18, tonight marks start of week 19. It is ripening up top quick. Should be able to start chunking them and work down as the below ripens. As you can see, below canopy has a little more time to go. Like 1-3 weeks.

I like that I have some nugs growing below to help indicate where other buds are at in ripening phase. Every few days I thoroughly check the canopy for rot and ripe status etc.

I think chunking the colas up top that have all the dead leaves should help avoid further risk of PM or rot etc. It gets green quick below the first layer of fan leaves. Heat and light stress. Leaves crunchy. Dry back.

I think it needs to be fed 6 -8 times a day instead of 5. Pot dries so fast like never before but this is a hot, windy and dense setup. Unless it is ok to show a little dry back before next feed. Better than bone dry.

I think I can start harvesting colas in about 1-2 weeks. The below, 1-3 weeks.

Full blown nanner. Uh oh. I thoroughly looked everywhere and do not see any more, how about you? Never had this. I put fem seeds through harsh times and never got a hermie. Never lit a plant up like this before either, using a 3x3 light in a 2x2.

It was pale white/yellow and kind of split open a tiny bit. I pulled it out and discarded it far away. Was this too late? What is it from? Too much light but what about vibrations from fan or touching tent wall. I heard about touching causing it.

I thought some bulbs of calyxes where seeded a week ago but pruned one open to find it was a dense calyx. It even looked like a seed about to pop out of calyx but it was not. It was all green flower.

Couple questions, feel free to answer from your experience.

Should the area of hanging be humidified to stay above 55%rh for a weekish before storing? I read the how to on here but still wonder. When you trim it and store it openly until RH is in the jar zone, what about humidifying the room then? What would you have ambient rh%?

Planning on cutting fan leaves and just leave the good sugar leaves and hang them on a line in an open area. Or closed bathroom or closet. Not sure yet.

Going to trim on a sift tray and put it in a few open 1 gal bags, what ever has it largely empty and wait for the caliber hygrometer to read the right rh then fill up and close the bags. Burp them a few times and/or leave it for long term storage.

The ounce-ish of side light weed will smoke first while rest stores for 30-60 days. Will weigh results around day 45 by weighing bag then adding the difference. Hopefully this at least becomes a high yielder.

I usually put a exhaust fan on a simple controller and dial it down til you reach 70% RH in the drying space.

Some small fans blowing from the bottom to stop any stagnant air/humid pockets. Then you let it go down by itself to about 65-55 RH depending on your liking.

Don't jar to early and dry slow in cold temperatures, preferably 15c~60F. You want the tissue to "die off" as slowly as possible to keep terps and cannabinoids intact.

Remove all big fan leaves and try to remove any brown crisp leaves before hanging. It's easier and better to dry trim in my experience. Makes them dry slower and less risk of mold!

Update, figured out how to clip affected sugar leaves. Just bend cola and snip deep inside woth pointy garden snips. Will continue practicing removing dead leaves.

Couple colas look ready already and by end of week, so will more. Question, if there are like one or two white hairs on a cola, that isn’t too early is it? I am sure some people accidently chop with a few that were not visable at chop.

Can you chop in that condition all in one or is that more on the side of chopping too early? I seen people say you can out of preference or that there is a few day window but also that it can grow white hairs out of stress. Or all the above?

Not clear on that. How common or hard is it to chop all in one. This one is tricky. It could throw hairs for weeks I feel like, in select places.

These tops can be seen all around let alone letting them ripe for rest of the week. I think I can chop half more more than half of tops. I do not have a space setup to dry yet though. I am trying to follow what was suggested but have no second 2x2 tent.

The canopy below has time left and the colas below the surface aren’t visible but will be when I chop through these this week.
