If this person's argument is that it is unfair to charge higher earners a little more to help out lower income people, i would suggest that this is merely a little equity, in repayment of a couple of centuries of treating those same people like shit.

A digital discouragement campaign targeting young British men is being pushed out by the Dutch city's council.

It comes as part of efforts to clean up Amsterdam's raunchy reputation as Europe's most liberal party capital.

The online ads, highlighting the risks associated with the excessive use of drugs and booze, show young men staggering in the street handcuffed by police, finger-printed and having their mugshots taken.

don't blame them at all. Once a group starts to use your town as a place to be fuckfaces, you have to start getting the fuck rid of them.
They have a large muscle car show here, the spring rod run...it's already a huge pain in the ass, they fuck up traffic for a week, don't spend much money, are shitty tippers...but they know the general rules and aren't rude to people for the most part. A couple of years ago, red neck pricks in big diesel trucks started to show up, and be rude assholes while they were here, adding to the traffic, rolling coal...Everyone here started telling them to get off of their property, they weren't welcome, we all leave them sit in traffic, never give them a break, and the cops started giving them $200 plus tickets for rolling coal...this year there were much less of them, and next year there will be even less...
So yeah, I don't blame the Dutch at all, I'd even give them some suggestions, if they seemed to need them.

Pot is illegal in the UK and when they hit the pot capitol to party after getting good and drunk, they wanna have a toke, even if they don't smoke much pot. The 30% shit knocks them for a loop when sober, so you can imagine its effect when they are already hammered on booze! I've seen it many times, the insanity before the big sleep and puke!

Bigotry towards drunk brititsh tourists and then equate that to a label used in a war to dehumanize the opponent. Weird, but I’ll bite.

I posted about the stay away campaign here months ago. Just last week it was on the regional news again, the results were not as intended. Instead, there‘s a rather large increase of tourists who apparantly noticed the campaign and figured that sounds like a good time. The brits who go to Amsterdam go there primarily to pubs and stag party clubs. The coffeeshops are a welcome bonus of course but it’s a different type of audience. Pretty sure it was you who posted a meme in this thread that emphasized the stereotype of drunk brits so you know the type.

“Pot“ being illegal in the UK doesn’t mean it‘s hard to get good stuff and doesn’t mean cannabis use is less popular in the UK than NL, on the contrary. It’s not a “pot” issue, it’s alcohol (+ speed, xtc, ghb, ketamine, and cocaine) that makes some groups a nuisance.

Just kidding, it was hard to resist your invasion of "orcs" and most people who don't smoke pot much or at all, suddenly want to have a toke when they are drunk. I've seen it many times and it always ends badly, often with a puke and a big sleep.

A “fool” is someone who lives by emotion.
Someone who is self righteous rather than righteous.
Someone who allows emotion to prevail over deep thought, patience, perseverance and the ability to reason.
Someone who you cannot have a in-depth conversation about anything serious.
Scripture states to not call anyone a fool, to withhold your tongue , not cast judgment, yet references the fool many times over throughout the books.
These people I believe are here to teach us tolerance, to witness first hand what it is that we should not be.
Please be kind and thoughtful next time you encounter one… be patient and tolerant as they know not what they are.

Does the schizo argument ever come up in NA from those who opposed legalization? By now quite a few years ago British scientists published the results of research into a link between schizophrenia and the consumption of cannabis. Politicians throughout europe have been cherrypicking that report since. The only thing it proved is a correlation between schizophrenia and cannabis use, no causation the other way around. That is, they specifically looked at cannabis use among schizophrenics, not schizophrenia among cannabis users.

"Wissing [Transport minister] holds a skeptical view of the substance. Confidentially, he talks about judgments he had to make as a judge before his political career. He dealt with some cases involving patients with paranoid schizophrenia. They had often consumed cannabis on a large scale; and it was Wissing, as the judge, who had to order that they be placed in hold in a psychiatric facility."

Again he goes from schizos use cannabis to cannabis users become schizophrenic. The reason his opinion weighs heavy is because it's all about transport, specifically across borders. As I mentioned a few months ago when they delayed their ambitious plans the first time, they assume it's not going to happen yet and the EU will not allow it. (2004 treaty, eu member states are required to fight drug trafficking including cannabis)

"On Wednesday, Health Minister Karl Lauterbach unveiled what he described as a "two-prong" model for gradually legalize possession of cannabis in Germany. Speaking together with Agriculture Minister Cem Özdemir of the Green Party, he announced the following steps:
  • The initial cultivation and distribution of the drug would be made possible in special associations called "cannabis clubs," where the purchase of a maximum of 25 grams would be permitted, with a monthly maximum per person of 50 grams.
  • Private cultivation would be allowed of up to three plants.
  • In a second step, sales through licensed specialist stores would be tested in pilot regions.
For the time being, though, it appears that the complete legalization of the drug has been taken off the table in Germany."

That's 3 more plants than we're allowed to grow though. Another issue that's not tackled with a unified approach; the number of plants mean nothing, it doesn't take into account the space, the light, the veg time, or even whether it's male or female.

It's almost funny how some European countries are struggling with the issue. For decades they complained about the dutch (non-)solution (keep the grows and supply illegal and show EU+UN we're still fighting the war on drugs, but decriminalize shops and customers). Others, like Germany, have looked at Barcelona and its cannabis social clubs for inspiration but unlike Germany, so far anyway, concluded it doesn't address a major issue: tourists can't join a club yet the more easily available cannabis means there will be plenty of it to buy on the streets. A major contributor to the idea of social cannabis clubs in Barcelona is the fact they didn't want it "to become Amsterdam". Now Germany, aimed for full legalization (though heavily regulated) and now does the same, for partly the same wrong reasons. It'll take years before it's more normalized throughout Germany and they'll team up with NL and few others to finally legalize it throughout the EU.

I guess you could look at the data from Canada we legalized it about 5 years ago, to my knowledge there has been no increase in the rates. Infact, legalization hasn't caused any problems at all as far as I can see. Pot is dirt cheap in Canada at the native res, or online, 28gm of 30% bud costs around $120 CDN at the government liquor store where it is the most expensive. It would be more profitable to grow lettuce under your lights than pot.

How about increase/decrease in consumers? 25% of dutch smoked cannabis, 29% in UK, and 40% in France. In other words, usually the more illegal it is, the more consumers. It was never really legalized here but long normalized to a point where it’s no longer attractive just because it’s not allowed. Some people prefer beer, some cannabis, and many buy and smoke a prerolled joint occassionally. The cool kids don’t smoke weed like they used to.

No/less taxes at the native res? Every plan in europe to legalize involves keeping rates similar to what they are in Amsterdam if needed by increasing taxes, more specifically excise duties like on alcohol, tabacco and gasoline. It’s the main argument to get the more conservative parties onboard, the promise of billions in tax revenue.

Germany is in a bit of a unique situation though, 8 EU members at its borders, we only got Belgium and Germany.

I wouldn’t take the risk of growing with those rates either, but 28gm high quality is 500cad up to a lot more. I can’t even buy cheap moroccan hash at your canadian rates.

It would be more profitable to grow lettuce under your lights than pot.
As it should be.

most people who don't smoke pot much or at all, suddenly want to have a toke when they are drunk. I've seen it many times and it always ends badly, often with a puke and a big sleep.
I worked in a coffeeshop a couple of years in the 90s. Not in Amsterdam but the sight of tourists turning pale white and puke or “go out” as we called it was not an uncommon one. Usually Americans. Things changed though, it’s no longer a special event for most tourists from NA and europe.

i was bigotted, if that's what it's called, toward drunks no matter what nationality, even when i was drunk.
Not uncommon for cannabis users. Coffeeshops in Amsterdam are tolerated not legal, and they get very few warning if customers cause a disturbance so they’re not too happy with drunks either.

The reason Brits are targetted with the Stay Away campaign is largely simply because most tourists in Amsterdam are from UK, Germany and Belgium. Germans, for obvious historical reasons, do not often cause problems, especially not in groups. Belgium is our Canada, they’re polite af, you can leave your door unlocked and they dress like it’s 1989.

British people ruin everything.

They are the Florida of Europe!
Do Floridians too walk around with dildos that can squirt beer on their foreheads? They’re more like the spring breakers who instead of going to our Florida (Spain, where they have quite the reputation too) went to cramped center of Amsterdam.
