They have a large muscle car show here, the spring rod run...it's already a huge pain in the ass, they fuck up traffic for a week, don't spend much money, are shitty tippers...but they know the general rules and aren't rude to people for the most part. A couple of years ago, red neck pricks in big diesel trucks started to show up, and be rude assholes while they were here, adding to the traffic, rolling coal...Everyone here started telling them to get off of their property, they weren't welcome, we all leave them sit in traffic, never give them a break, and the cops started giving them $200 plus tickets for rolling coal...this year there were much less of them, and next year there will be even less...
So yeah, I don't blame the Dutch at all, I'd even give them some suggestions, if they seemed to need them.

I posted about the stay away campaign here months ago. Just last week it was on the regional news again, the results were not as intended. Instead, there‘s a rather large increase of tourists who apparantly noticed the campaign and figured that sounds like a good time. The brits who go to Amsterdam go there primarily to pubs and stag party clubs. The coffeeshops are a welcome bonus of course but it’s a different type of audience. Pretty sure it was you who posted a meme in this thread that emphasized the stereotype of drunk brits so you know the type.

Politicians throughout europe have been cherrypicking that report since. The only thing it proved is a correlation between schizophrenia and cannabis use, no causation the other way around. That is, they specifically looked at cannabis use among schizophrenics, not schizophrenia among cannabis users.

(2004 treaty, eu member states are required to fight drug trafficking including cannabis)

That's 3 more plants than we're allowed to grow though. Another issue that's not tackled with a unified approach; the number of plants mean nothing, it doesn't take into account the space, the light, the veg time, or even whether it's male or female.

It's almost funny how some European countries are struggling with the issue. For decades they complained about the dutch (non-)solution (keep the grows and supply illegal and show EU+UN we're still fighting the war on drugs, but decriminalize shops and customers). Others, like Germany, have looked at Barcelona and its cannabis social clubs for inspiration but unlike Germany, so far anyway, concluded it doesn't address a major issue: tourists can't join a club yet the more easily available cannabis means there will be plenty of it to buy on the streets. A major contributor to the idea of social cannabis clubs in Barcelona is the fact they didn't want it "to become Amsterdam". Now Germany, aimed for full legalization (though heavily regulated) and now does the same, for partly the same wrong reasons. It'll take years before it's more normalized throughout Germany and they'll team up with NL and few others to finally legalize it throughout the EU.

How about increase/decrease in consumers? 25% of dutch smoked cannabis, 29% in UK, and 40% in France. In other words, usually the more illegal it is, the more consumers. It was never really legalized here but long normalized to a point where it’s no longer attractive just because it’s not allowed. Some people prefer beer, some cannabis, and many buy and smoke a prerolled joint occassionally. The cool kids don’t smoke weed like they used to.

No/less taxes at the native res? Every plan in europe to legalize involves keeping rates similar to what they are in Amsterdam if needed by increasing taxes, more specifically excise duties like on alcohol, tabacco and gasoline. It’s the main argument to get the more conservative parties onboard, the promise of billions in tax revenue.

Germany is in a bit of a unique situation though, 8 EU members at its borders, we only got Belgium and Germany.

I wouldn’t take the risk of growing with those rates either, but 28gm high quality is 500cad up to a lot more. I can’t even buy cheap moroccan hash at your canadian rates.

I worked in a coffeeshop a couple of years in the 90s. Not in Amsterdam but the sight of tourists turning pale white and puke or “go out” as we called it was not an uncommon one. Usually Americans. Things changed though, it’s no longer a special event for most tourists from NA and europe.

Not uncommon for cannabis users. Coffeeshops in Amsterdam are tolerated not legal, and they get very few warning if customers cause a disturbance so they’re not too happy with drunks either.

The reason Brits are targetted with the Stay Away campaign is largely simply because most tourists in Amsterdam are from UK, Germany and Belgium. Germans, for obvious historical reasons, do not often cause problems, especially not in groups. Belgium is our Canada, they’re polite af, you can leave your door unlocked and they dress like it’s 1989.
