The military liquor stores on Guam would have to put cases of Budweiser longnecks on sale when they were reaching their use by date. We could get cases for $6. We would head down to the Navy package store and load the car up to where the ass was almost dragging. When we had a party the garbage men had a hell of a time picking up the cans and they made a lot of noise being dumped in the truck.

I never got that far afield. But down in Cuba in the early 80's beer was cheep. It was two bucks a six pack or six for a case. Of course drinking beer in the tropics is a whole nother thing anyway. You can taste the preservatives. And likely couldn't drink it unless they were there. We (the Saipan) spent a couple three months down at GitMo to go through sea trials after dry dock. The black shoe guys were on three day duty rotations, so got to go ashore after work two out of every three days. Not to much to do back then but play pool on the one table on base, watch the outdoor walk-in movie, or go down to the beach and drink beer.

I flew from there back to Hampton Roads in November. From laying naked in the surf to freezing drizzle all in the same day.

I got stuck in Mildenhall in England on one of my return trips from Saudi Arabia. It was in the 50's and drizzling and I didn't even have a jacket. I ended up stealing a sweater that was left at the laundromat to survive. We had no transportation to go anywhere so shopping for clothes was out.

My GQ station on the destroyer was the forward emergency diesel generator room where I was the Engineman in charge of a Cummins straight-8 marine diesel engine

There was also an Electricians Mate who was in charge of the power panel

The first time I smoked honey oil was during a GQ drill

My GQ station on the Saipan was the forward EDG. I was the electrician. I think our diesel was a 12. I liked the drills where you just pretended to crank her up. She was a loud girl.

There's a YouTube channel @druid_works. There's some WW2 Dogfighting shorts and other amazing aviation footage that has had audio added and color enhanced ( I believe some of it is AI) In the channels bio, it states for every 15 seconds of footage, it takes 18 hours of editing.
There's some German aerial footage as well, reading some of the comments I learned that is rare.
Thought some of you might like to check it out.

i am ashamed of my town
after 4 phone calls over a month, and a in person complaint to our city hall this morning,
this is still flying on city property.
