I suspect that Rubicon has been crossed. It already is being seen and described as genocidal cruelty. I have the sinking feeling that Israel’s fascist cadre is enjoying that.

I"m also disturbed by the hard-right Israeli "settlers" on the West Bank, some of these people are fanatical and are committing atrocities,and when combined w/the Netanyahu govt. are painting a picture of the state of Israel that I don't believe a large % of their population is "down with".

Unfortunately the current government has begun implementing actions to achieve minority rule, mooting public opinion.
We are (still) damned close to the same happening here. Here as well, the judicial is the key.

Helping civilians is the moral and proper thing to do without a doubt. I agree that the vast majority of Israeli citizens do not want to see innocent civilians in Gaza killed or suffering; I'd argue that the majority of the government does not want to see innocent civilians in Gaza suffering or killed. There are a few extremists in Israel's government getting exactly what they want, Hamas is getting everything they want, and many decent people are suffering which is why this war is so angering. I just hope the majority decides enough is enough - sooner rather than later, and those extremists become pariahs once again.
Good point,and I have reservations about the current state of the SCOTUS,another under the radar credit to Biden is that he hasn't attempted to increase the amount of sitting judges,damn straight if the roles were reversed the Reps. would be kicking and screaming to boost the number to 11 judges.

OK possibly some good news.
Sigrid Kaag, a Dutch politician and veteran United Nations diplomat, will take charge of the international body’s effort to bring humanitarian relief to war-ravaged Gaza, the UN Secretary General announced Tuesday, filling a position created this month in a breakthrough UN Security Council resolution.
Not mentioned in the article is that her husband is Anis al-Qaq, a former Palestinian Authority Deputy minister (under Arafat) and ambassador from Jerusalem. Unlike the article suggest she didn't lead her party (proper left dems) to victory in 2021 but they did gain a lot. Unfortunately, cause at the time we had hopes she'd be our first female PM. Her main problem was an image problem, too posh. Almost in a British way. Bit disconnected from regular simple folk. And of course the whole Afghanistan fiasco wasn't on her. That said, very decent, qualified, reasonable and experienced polygot.
She's pretty much the best we got, or had cause unlike the article suggests she wasn't going to quit politics, just national politics. Don't know what she can do at this point but she'll give whatever she's supposed to do the full 100%.

Rumorville is saying once Hamas and IJ are ejected out of Gaza, PA will take over and run gaza.....we shall see...

What also says a lot about her is that she's the most harassed and hated person by the far-right in NL. Our own demagogue, Wilders, possibly soon to be PM referred to her as a 'witch'.

He's objectively too logical and cold regarding the situation in Gaza, Kaag only appears like that sometimes in the eyes of men who can't stand a strong woman with more brains than they have. She's a heavyweight. Middle Eastern Studies undergraduate at uni of Utrecht, Masters in International relationships at Oxford uni, foreign relationship at uni of Exeter. I honestly have no idea how or what she's going to do, but this isn't someone who takes a position because it comes with a good salary and prestige. Elite af though. I probably won't even agree with her on everything but at the same time, it's one of those persons that makes me sleep better if at the wheel.

Now that a top Hamas leader has been wasted in Beirut by a Israeli air strike I'm wondering if Hezbollah will react in the north,also the media is hyping what they call a Iranian destroyer to the Red Sea,the Iranians don't have destroyers,the ship they sent is a corvette/patrol boat looking 70-80's vintage that is about one third the size of a US Burke class destroyer and possesses 10% of the capability if it's lucky. Hope the Iranians aren't baiting us w/a suicide mission,which it surely will be if this boat shows hostile intent. In the overall context,we really don't need things getting HOT directly w/Iran,Biden already has a banquet on his plate.

actually it's top leaders that were hit in a drone strike on a building, from the looks of it they got 7 of them in that strike. As far a Hezbollah getting into it, i dunno, i do know Lebanon won't put up with it, they have already had a couple of wars with them, and it didn't turn out to good for Beirut and surrounding areas, so i don't think they'll risk it. Iran is just posturing, like they did with Hamas.....as soon as the war started Iran went back into they're hole and said "we didn't know anything"

The trial against Netanyahu is still underway and if convicted he might still be removed and/or get locked up, or he can take his case to court, which is now harder to pack with judges that would side with him instead of reason and ethics. Hearings several times a week after a pause because of the war, but he's exempt for now. It's expected to complete early this year but appeals might take years. By that time he probably won't be PM anymore.
