Thanks. The Congolese seems to be the same one some are calling red stem and others are selling at silly high prices. Ive seen some pictures of it on one of the forums but when reading the report the guy didnt give a very good smoke report but I think thats just a personal thing. I was interested to know if anyone else had experience with it and found any good plants that smoked half decent from it. Its obviously still quite raw in the form its in and as with many landrace types need work. But I wanted to know if there was any potential in it. Some Congolese are potent or with a bit of selective pressure can fast be very potent. Unfortunately there isnt alot of (real)pure Congolese available. There were some rumours going around that this Congolese might be the one Franco(rip) collected himself and donated for preservation to some local institute, but not sure of that. It could be me mis-remembering, but im sure the price has gone up on them, so im guessing that must mean they've realized they are better than they first thought.

Yes with Malawi, what I found interesting with the Malawi 2020 is they were actually collected recently (2020)in Africa rather than the afro-pips one wich is in quite a few breeders hands and on the seed market in various forms. I thought it might be interesting to see what the 2020 african version was like and its not one everyone has, I haven't seen or heard of anyone who has grown it either. Might grab the 2020 myself.
flowering young congo males both giving off raspberry magic marker smell on the stem rub. seems interesting. no girls though.

Trying congolese indoors 12/12 from seed and plants are fairly neglected but never go dry with constant water supply from beneath, planted in the same small pot to reign in the size. The smaller one was dying for no reason so I removed. The remaining one was much healthier and thick trunked but after 15 weeks had no trichs which bothers me. It smells mostly like carrot which is not in the description. I guess the smell could be interpreted as leathery which is in the descriptiion but that is not my impression. Both plants were extreeemely red stemmed like 80-90% red like rhubarb. I wonder if I did something wrong not to get any tricks at all. Anybody know if low trichome production is common in congolese?

I grew their Jamaican blue mountain lambsbread and ended up with an unimpressive pure sativa with very little trichs. I assumed it would be sativa but it was lacking in every way, still curing and haven't had anyone smoke it yet. I did grow their 90 afgaan and it ended up being a lot like their description and so I just thought I would share this, hopefully it helps...

Sounds just like a dud pheno it happens especially in older lines mate its a gutter but can go with the territory with landrace sativas most phenos should have decent resin not crazy frosty like some modern stuff but it should still be there man

I've read true landrace sativas tend to be a coin toss in terms of production/potency
They can be even same with indicas shit could look insanely frosty and still be mild or 0 high cos its cbd dom and low thc obviously its different vs ganja strains they bit more bred towards that goal so should be better i just pointing this out as all true landrace is a lottery/hunt

Just saying, I'm not complaining regarding RSC because I think they/re clear it's likely to be a hunt.

Oh i know you aint complaining mate i just say because many people always seem to miss that actual landrace is so variable and alot of the time not what folks really want most folk find heirlooms more useful for that reason and even with them it depends on selections and how well that lines maintained etc

I imagine they bring alot to the table for breeding purposes.
They are thats why i hate there being wrecked at a rate like never before sure cannabis has been persecuted and tolerated at different time periods so many times over throughout history but with modern seeds getting everywhere you got alot of so called breeders thinking its ok cos the local stuff takes over after a few years thats bs once its polluted thats it and the internet is the killer blow as well now seeds go everywhere as good as that is its bad too its grab what you can now before its gone or polluted sadly imo

I agree. I am optimistic, because this plant cultivates a dedication from people both to breed and preserve.

I like to think the future of cannabis includes IBLs from folks who have just been tuning a single line for decades, like Tom Hill without any legal restrictions.

I think crossing this to something would be nice to bring in its carrot essence especially for joint smoking imho.
Its common in alot of sativa stuff its in zamal lines its in some thai and other african lines even the odd himilayan like malana can throw the sweet carrot thing

Oh definitely preservationists deserve more respect than these hype pushers i agree i respect them the most folks like tom or angus of rsc and many other good folks still are doing good things luckily and getting stuff out there

Its been reproduced a few times via open polination. So not really a landrace but its still very raw . So you might still find plants that arnt great at all. But its best to grow them with quite a lot of light and try and make it quite dry from about a third of the way into flowering onwards. Some plants just take time to put on the resin. Did you just grow the two plants ? No males found?. I seen someone else grow them and he got very good results, his 4 female plants i seen all were not far off the double congo that tropical put out that many other breeders use too. If the rsc one fell in to the right hands im sure someone could work out something really good from it while keeping it pure. Just needs the right methods and some work put into it. Its probably more better to grow a full pack or two out of these landrace types and open polinated stuff as your allways going to get some variation from worthless plants to mediocer to great. The great ones are going to need looking for, or may need work getting to.
Edit: i just re read your post about the couple males, the magic marker and rasberry actualy sounds good. Did they remain stable and did they carry the red stem and very dark leaf trait or were they the lighter coloured leaves ? Thanks.
