I’m just getting into growing what should I get. Need a cost effective solution
1st thing is to get a PPM/PH tester, then good seeds.
Never plant just one seed, because you will have a good chance not all will sprout or be healthy.
For 1 plant germ 3.
If all are successful, cool, you have more plants.
If you have failures, at least you should have one good plant.

And hang around here and keep asking questions and you'll do fine.
Good luck.

Cheapest way is to plant a seed and nurture it. If it dies, plant another and try again. As my dad used to say "you will get it right if you are willing to do it again." bongsmilie

or is that too cheap?

My current grow is under those same light panels. (2 xs 2500’s - 2 of those panels attached together per light). I put up some progress pics last week. Those light panels work pretty well for the price.

I have several PH meters just don't use them. I start my seeds in plastic bag in between two paper towels. When they germinate I put them in fiber pot with soil and additives. I just water for first three or four weeks.
If a winter indoor grow autos are fine, I started my outdoor crop in March in the tent. They are all currently taller than me.

You will find many different suggestion here on the net but it is really dependent on the conditions in your grow area.

My thoughts on a light are look for one that will function with a controller
