It's the outer case. I'm not cool enough to fix this kind of thing. I'm not sure why it's disintegrating because it doesn't look very obviously like rust. But the top is falling in.

I have this one right now.

Its about $250 at home depot. Dual fuel propane - wood/charcoal. I added felt gaskets originally and had it for a few years now. The floor is rusting out. But I still like it. Heat and the acidic smoke from wood will accelerate corrosion.

Mine looks a lot like that. I want one that I can lay huge racks of ribs on without cutting them in half.

Or build a smokehouse with wood or brick or basically anything to any size you want.

I have one like this, found it on Facebook marketplace for $50 used. It does have a hot spot where the smoke comes in and smoking for a long time is tedious because of reloading the burn barrel.
